As you know, President Trump issued a new Executive Order and travel ban on March 6, which was scheduled to take effect today. You can read our summary of that EO
here. Yesterday, a Hawaii District Court issued a
temporary restraining order (TRO) which prohibits the Federal Government from enforcing the 90-day travel ban on certain nonimmigrants from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen, and also from enforcing the 120-day ban on refugee admissions and adjudications. The TRO does not have a set validity period, but indicates that the Court will set an expedited hearing to determine whether the TRO should be extended.
There are several additional cases pending around the country, and an additional TRO was issued this morning by a Federal Judge in Maryland. A ruling on the case pending in Washington is also anticipated today. President Trump has indicated that he intends to appeal these rulings.
