Dear RSU 21 Families,

I hope this message finds you well as we wrap up our third week of school. It's hard to believe we're already heading into the final full week of September this Monday, September 23rd. Time flies when we're learning and growing together!

I wanted to take a moment to touch base and share a few thoughts with you all. First, I want to express my heartfelt appreciation for the energy and enthusiasm you've brought to this new school year. Your dedication is what makes our school community so special.

On a practical note, I wanted to update you on our transportation situation. We're continuing to work diligently on expanding our bus driver team. Currently, we have three potential drivers awaiting licensure from the state. Once we receive confirmation that their information has been processed, we'll be able to welcome these additional drivers to our roads. I understand that operating with limited capacity has posed some challenges for our families, and I want you to know that your patience and understanding during this time mean the world to us.

As we head into the weekend, I hope you all find some time to relax and recharge. And for our sports enthusiasts, don't forget to cheer on our team as they face off against Marshwood in what promises to be an exciting match!

Thank you for being such an integral part of our school family. Your support and collaboration are what make our district a wonderful place to learn and grow.

Wishing you a fabulous weekend filled with joy and relaxation.

Much love,

Terri Cooper

Off to Camp Kieve!

On Tuesday, the Educational Foundation of the Kennebunks and Arundel (EFKA) presented a check for $700 to send this group of KHS students off to Camp Kieve!

To date, EFKA has donated $1.8 million over the last 18 years to support RSU 21 initiatives and programs.

THANK YOU, EFKA!

Harvest time for our community gardens

The community gardens at Mildred L. Day, Middle School of the Kennebunks, and Kennebunk Elementary School (pictured) are going gangbusters! A steady stream of vegetables and herbs has been coming from these gardens.

Just at the KES garden alone, there have been over a dozen pits of tomatoes, over 25 pounds of cucumbers, and handfuls of basil and lettuce have been donated to Community Outreach Services' (COS) food pantry!

The KES garden began during a planting party in late April where families helped plant seedlings, paint rocks, and donate non-perishables to COS. Planting supplies were donated by local companies.

This effort would not have been possible without the generous support from our local sponsors, volunteers, and the RSU 21 grounds department.

Show your support for Jackson and other childhood cancer patients and survivors by wearing GOLD throughout the month of September.

Donations to organizations like the Childhood Cancer Research Fund ensure research into improving treatment options and prevention does not stop.

WMTW airs feature on beloved KHS Custodian Terri Baird

WMTW Channel 8 is featuring our wonderful custodian, Terri Baird, as part of their regular Community Champion series!

It will air tonight (9/20) at 6 p.m. on WMTW and again at 10 p.m. on Maine's CW. The story will also eventually be on the station's website.

Terri's unwavering commitment to the students and staff at KHS was on full display, with several students showing up earlier this month to speak about how much she means to them.
