May is Lower East Side History Month!

Lower East Side History Month is an annual celebration of the stories and peoples of the LES.

To kick things off on May 3 at 1 PM, we're teaming up with FABnyc to present a walking tour of East 4th Street.

For generations, the Lower East Side has been home to thriving arts, family-owned restaurants and shops, and a diverse community of residents committed to their neighborhood. Yet real estate speculation and predation constantly threatens to displace residents, small businesses, and cultural spaces.

In the face of this pressure, East 4th Street stands as an exception. It is a community with stable homes where people can actually lay down roots, small businesses serve local needs, and thriving culture spills out of every corner. This didn’t just happen by accident or magic. People fought to protect their homes and community spaces.

How? Meet residents, small businesses, artists, and organizers to learn how this block became a model for neighborhood development around NYC and the world.
