RSVP Digest

December 2022

Volume 1: Issue 6

Welcome

Janet McCoy, RSVP Manager

As 2022 draws to a close, RSVP members will celebrate with an end-of-the-year party on December 14. Please see the invitation below and click the button to reserve your spot.

The event theme is a "Season of Giving." We will celebrate giving in three ways.

First, we will celebrate with food catered by the Epps Christian Center. By supporting this entrepreneurial venture, we will be supporting the Center's initiatives to address food insecurity in Pensacola.

Second, RSVP members are asked to bring donations for homeless veterans to the party. See the last article in this newsletter for more information including a list of items that are needed. Donations will also be accepted if you are unable to attend the party.

Third, we will play bingo and attendees can win gifts that have been donated to RSVP! Mary White, a former RSVP Manager, has agreed to be our bingo caller extraordinaire!

Each of you is a gift to our community as you work throughout the year to make our area a better place to live. Please join me in celebrating this "Season of Giving."

Volunteer Spotlight: Laureen Wicker

Laureen Wicker has been an active member of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) since the "Reboot & Refresh" kickoff event in April. She has given her time, talent and treasure to the program.

Just before Thanksgiving she stepped up to serve as an "RSVP Ambassador" at the "Boomers & Seniors Expo" at the Gulf Breeze Community Center.

Laureen (right) joined VISTA Volunteer Julia Helton (left) at the vendor table at the event. Laureen helped promote RSVP by answering questions from potential new AmeriCorps Senior members. THANK YOU, Laureen!

Donations for Homeless Vets

RSVP is partnering with the Florida Veterans Support Line team (MYFLVET) at United Way of West Florida to collect donations for homeless veterans. These items will be distributed at upcoming events for the homeless.

RSVP members can bring their donations to the upcoming Holiday Party on December 14. Others are welcome to donate too! There is a donation box in the UWWF lobby at 1301 W. Government Street in Pensacola. It will be there until December 22.
