This Week at Christ Church
Sunday Supper - RSVP soon!
Parish Family Meal
We hope that you're planning to attend Sunday Supper this Sunday, January 19 at 5:00 p.m. in Hinde Hall. We need to have a critical mass by tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday, January 15, so let us know you're coming asap - RSVP below.

We will hold an Evening Prayer service then share a simple family-style meal. In the scripture we will hear about Jesus calling his disciples and talk about what it means to "follow Jesus." Dinner will be fish 'n chips with a poultry (and veggie) option for those that don't like fish! Let us know if you're planning to attend by replying via the button below. We hope to see you there!
Healing Service Parking
Thursday, January 16
The day school will hold their culminating event for the Apex Fun Run fundraiser, Thursday, January 16. It is a "fun run" where the children run laps to earn $$ for specifics projects/items for the school. There will be many parents in attendance and that might impact parking in the lot for the Healing Service. Just make a note that you may need to give yourself a little extra time to find parking.
Celebrants this Sunday
January 19, 2020
Fr. Michael will be away this Sunday for his daughter's wedding in Colorado. We will welcome Rev. Gwynn Lynch and Rev. Laura Sheridan-Campbell from the diocese. Rev. Lynch is the new canon to the ordinary. She has served in the diocese many years and begins work in her new position January 15. Rev. Sheridan-Campbell is the current director of transition and formation. She and Rev. Lynch will be meeting with the Call Committee after Sunday services to discuss our transition. We hope that you will be here this Sunday to welcome them both.

Words to Live By
Influence: Good and Bad
Their fame is their influence:
A few years back, Time Magazine recently published its list of the worlds’ one hundred most influential people. Of these “influencers” the magazine’s editorial staff grouped them into categories of influence--from leaders and revolutionaries to builders and titans, from artists and entertainers to heroes and icons, scientists and thinkers.
Interestingly, the magazine included some whose influence was wholly negative. Bernard Madoff, who stole a reported sixty billion dollars from investors and bankrupted many charitable organizations, made the list, as did Joaquin Guzman, the Mexican drug lord behind the horrific violence that has claimed over 15,000 lives in his home country and abroad.   Read more...

Outreach
Blanket Drive
Warmth to those in need
Thank you for the many blanket donations that have already arrived at the parish office! If you would like to participate but have few or no used blankets to donate, you may contribute to the parish's bulk purchase of high quality disaster relief/community shelter blankets. Donations of any amount are welcome but a $10 minimum is suggested as that is the cost of one blanket. Donations may be dropped off at the parish office during office hours or by envelope labelled 'blanket drive' in the offering on Sunday.

It's Spaghetti Dinner Time!
Mark your calendar
Support for the annual Spaghetti Dinner - a joint effort of the parish and day school - has always been phenomenal! We hope you'll once again come for a delicious dinner, Monday, January 27, prepared by the Service Ministry and served by the 5th and 6th grade CCDS students. The cost is a donation of canned food for the St. Mark's Neighborhood Food Pantry. Your evite will be coming this week so keep a look out and make sure to RSVP to one of the two seatings that evening. Learn more about the Spaghetti Dinner fundraising event.

Welcome
Newcomer's Luncheon
New to the parish?
It's been quite some time since we've gathered newcomers to Christ Church for a "welcome" luncheon. Given that, whether you're brand new to the parish or have been here awhile but haven't attended a newcomer event, we hope you'll join us Sunday, January 26 at 11:30 a.m. for an informal lunch and introduction in Hinde Hall. Families as well as individuals are welcome, but let us know you're planning on attending so we have enough food for everyone.

Going forward Fr. Michael plans to greet newcomers in his office the last Sunday of each month. The next gathering will be Sunday, February 16 - because the last Sunday that month, February 23, is our Annual Meeting!
CCDS Open House
Visit classrooms and meet teachers
Don’t miss this opportunity to visit the campus and find out more about our exceptional day school at the annual Christ Church Day School Open House, Saturday, January 25, 9:00 a.m - 12:00 noon. Help us spread the word about the phenomenal education for the whole child that takes place every week at CCDS. Bring your friends and neighbors who might be interested. There are yard signs available to advertise the event to the community. If you would like one to put in your yard, pick one up at the parish office. Check out the school’s website for more information on the school and admissions in the coming academic year.

Parish News
Beware of Email Scams
No one is immune
We all need to be cautious of nefarious activity on the internet; it's easy to be fooled. You may have even received a seemingly "urgent" message from clergy at Christ Church. PLEASE NOTE that no one from Christ Church would urgently contact you via email. All of the Christ Church email address have the @christchurchcoronado.org extension, anything from the day school will have the @ccds.org extension. If you are concerned about a suspicious email, first check the email address of the sender - if it's not the church or day school address it is most certainly a scam. If you are ever in doubt just contact the parish office .

Flowers in the New Year
Support the ministry
The flower ministry is on-going each and every Sunday. Fresh flowers arrive Saturday mornings for display Sunday morning and through the week. These flowers are funded by parishioners in memory of loved ones or for thanksgiving for a momentous event. If you wish to donate flowers on a specific date in the coming year, please contact the parish office or simply complete a Flower Request form on the website. The donation of $85 is requested to offset the florist cost. You may donate in advance or the you will be invoiced after the fact.
New Vestry Nominations
From the Senior Warden
There are four Vestry positions  that will need to be filled at the 2020 Annual Meeting February 23 rd . We ask parishioners to think and pray carefully about whether serving on the Vestry might be a way for them to increase their support of and involvement in the life of the parish. If you are interested in pursuing a spot or know of someone you think might be perfect to serve. The Vestry Nomination Committee is now accepting nominations . If you have any questions or wish to make a nomination, please contact Nominating Committee Chairman, Hal Skelly or me, Paul Laedlein, Senior Warden .

Transition
Transition Update
The Call Committee Thanks You
With one more listening session to go, more than 100 of you have participated in listening sessions ! We are grateful for your participation and deeply moved by your love of Christ Church and care for its future. As one member of the call committee said, “The listening session made me proud to be part of this church.”

Thank you to everyone who completed the survey . We know it was long and some of the questions were complicated. Nevertheless, we had more than 100 responses! We now look forward to learning the results. The call committee and vestry will be meeting with the diocesan consultant on February 1 and we will share the results with the congregation soon after that.

The next step in the process is the creation of Christ Church’s profile and portfolio. The profile will be on our website and tell our story to prospective rectors. The portfolio is entered into The Episcopal Church’s data base and serves as our job announcement to the greater church. We anticipate taking the month of February to write these pieces and posting the position in early March .

If you have names of priests you would like to have considered, please email Julie Young , or give them to the church office.

Calendar and Serving Schedule
Not Able to Make it to Church?
3 things to DO....
Some Sundays you just can't make it to church. In that case, here are three things you can do:
  • Watch the Sunday service on our live-stream, both the 8:00 and 10:00 a.m. - via the website
  • Each week's Sunday bulletins for both services are also available on the website "Worship" page.
  • Sermons are usually posted on the homepage of the website, under "News".

Remember, the live-stream is just that, it broadcasts the services in real time, no recording is currently available.
