RTA’s Mobility Management Resource Day
October 16 at Libertyville Township
An RTA rep will be at the Township Food Pantry next week from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
Accessible Metra, Pace and CTA buses and trains are easy to use and the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) would love to show you how! It is important that older adults and people with disabilities stay informed about accessible public transportation options to get to appointments, maintain social connections, and enjoy independent travel!

November 6, 2018 Election News
Early Voting
In-person early voting for the Nov. 6 Election is now available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays through Oct. 19 at the Lake County Clerk’s Office, 18 N. County St., Waukegan. Beginning Oct. 22, early voting will be available at 16 early voting sites throughout the county. Use any early voting site regardless of where you live.

Vote by Mail
Registered voters wishing to vote by mail must submit a completed electronic application or paper application to the Clerk’s office by noon Nov. 1. Voted ballots must be returned to the Clerk’s office bearing a postmark no later than midnight on Election Day.

Libertyville Metra Station Renovation Project
The contractor has informed the Village that the installation of the construction fencing around the perimeter of the Metra Station work site will begin Thursday, October 4
th
. This will restrict access to the building to authorized individuals only. This fence will surround the area in the shaded region of the diagram below. All Metra ticketing and other Metra related matters will move to the temporary ticket trailer just east of the building, also shown in the diagram below.
The twenty (20) permit parking spaces that will be displaced due to the station renovation will be moved to north end of the American Legion Lot and will be open for use starting Thursday, October 4
th
. The permit parking spaces relocated to the American Legion Lot will have signs posted designating these spots as commuter permit parking Monday to Friday 5:00 am – 5:00 pm.

For the first hour, 10-11 a.m., there will be no sirens, horns, bells, whistles, or buzzers. Those who are bothered by loud noises can enjoy this annual event in peace. The Community Emergency Response Team
CERT- program educates people about disaster preparedness for emergencies that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills. These groups can provide immediate assistance to victims in their area and assist professional responders with prioritization and allocation of resources following a disaster. Training will take place at Mundelein Fire Station #1 at 1000 N Midlothian. Dates and times for training are Friday November 2 6:00-10:00 pm, Saturday November 3 8:00-4:00 pm, and Sunday November 4 8:00-4:00 pm.

he Congressional App Challenge
The challenge is a national contest that encourages middle and high school students to learn science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) skills by coding their own app for any digital device.
The Challenge is open to all middle and high school students who live or attend school in the Tenth District, regardless of skill level. Students can choose to participate individually or as part of a team of up to 4 students, as long as two of the team members meet eligibility requirements.
To enter, participants must upload a video showcasing their app and an explanation of what they learned throughout the app-making process.
App submissions will be accepted through Noon EST, Monday, October 15, 2018.

From your Mailbox to the Ballot Box
Beginning August 8, Lake County residents correctly registered with their current name and address can complete the required application to request a ballot by mail for the November 6, 2018 election.

Although any registered voter can vote by mail, this is an ideal voting option for snowbirds, students away at school, and those who will be traveling on Election Day as your ballot can be mailed anywhere.
According to Illinois state statute, ballots cannot be mailed to voters until late September.
The Clerk's office must receive your completed application by noon on Thursday, November 1. Voted ballots being returned by mail must be postmarked by midnight on Election Day.

RTA Reduced Fare Pass Applications
New Applicants--
Seniors 65 and over may apply for the RTA Pass at Libertyville Township. Taking the train downtown? This will save you money and it is free. It takes 3 to 4 weeks to receive the pass in the mail. Bring in a 2x2 inch photo and your Illinois driver's license.
The RTA Reduced Fare Permit allows older adults, age 65 and older, and qualified people with disabilities and Medicare recipients to ride all RTA fixed-route services (regularly scheduled CTA, Metra and Pace buses or trains in Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry and Will Counties) at a reduced fare.
