A Message from Rabbi

Dear RTFH Family,

Sometimes we feel powerless to make a change in an

ever-complicated world. While

we may not be able to make systematic differences, we can help that one person have a better today because of our actions.

The recent government shutdown highlighted that millions of Americans rely on assistance to put food on their families’ tables. A recent study found that 25% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck, one crisis away from hunger.

In this week’s Torah portion, Esau is so hungry that he abandons his birthright – his future – for a pot of lentil soup. When people are hungry, they can’t focus on other vital

needs such as work, family, and their own future.

Make the positive choice to bring food to Temple when you come for services or Religious School. We have donation tables in the Upper Lobby. Food will be supporting local food banks such as Commonpoint, Queens Community House, and the 7th Day Adventist Soup Kitchen. To you, it is a single box or can. To a neighbor, it is dinner – and the chance to focus on their future.

L’shalom,

Rabbi Mark

P.S. Make sure to bring a food donation when you come to the Interfaith Thanksgiving Service on Sunday at 4pm held at RTFH.

Jenna's Mitzvah Project:

For my mitzvah project, I partnered with Muddy Paws Rescue. Muddy Paw’s mission is to build and support a thriving community of

dog-loving humans dedicated to ending unnecessary euthanasia of companion dogs.

I am too young to volunteer with most rescue organizations, but I was able to channel my creative side and combine it with my love of animals to make rope toys for the rescue dogs to play with.

I made almost 70 rope toys by taking colorful old t-shirts, cutting them up and braiding them. I delivered them to Muddy Paws HQ on 9th Avenue and 55th Street.
