Elana Arian in Concert
Saturday, May 2nd at 7:30pm
Dear RTFH Family,
Music is really the heartbeat of a congregation. It’s what turns a room full of individuals into one community, taking our ancient prayers, texts, and tunes and making them feel alive and personal. It’s a language that connects us across generations, helping us feel the weight and beauty of our tradition in a way that words alone can’t always do. In our congregation, we are blessed to have many resources for our music – me, our choirs, our wonderful house musicians, and we even have a classical chamber music series!
This year, I decided to try something new: to bring in an acclaimed Jewish composer and prayer leader from outside our walls. Elana Arian is already known to us through so much of her music. But having her here is different. Sometimes, a fresh voice and
a new melody are exactly what’s needed to spark our spirits and to connect us through song with even more heart. Elana lives and breathes the music that she writes. Her presence can open us up to new perspectives and a deeper, more vibrant way to be together. As we listen to her, our choirs, and join in ourselves in
song, I can’t wait to see how she will help us to strengthen the bonds we share and to nurture our collective voice.
I hope you’ll join us.
L’shalom,
Cantor Emily

Eli's Mitzvah Project
"Music is one of the most important things in my life. I love being in every band I am in at school, and at every opportunity, I try to join more. When thinking about what to do for my mitzvah project, I thought about this, and how I want to give other children in New York City the opportunity to join a school band, and play an instrument in a band. The program MusiCan is able to offer a variety of music programs to New York City children from disadvantaged neighborhoods and to schools with scarce resources where other music programs are not available, and that's why I started a fundraiser for them. For my mitzvah project, I drilled holes into guitar picks, and turned them into necklaces and keychains, which I then sold at RTFH during Mitzvah Day, and to other friends and family. I then donated the money to MusiCan, and hopefully my actions are the reason other children like me are able to play music."
