Dear RTFH Family,
This past Sunday, our 7th and 10th grades visited Anne Frank: The Exhibition in Manhattan—a powerful recreation of Anne’s story and the secret annex where her family hid for over two years. Anne’s tragic and personal tale has impacted people of all backgrounds across the world and, sadly, remains all too relevant today.
We persistently see hatred and violence directed at people for their identity, family history, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, and more. Antisemitism remains on the rise, including the recent assault of a rabbi on the streets of Forest Hills on International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
Every generation must learn from the cruelty of the past to create a safer world for today. We are grateful to the Educational Enhancement Fund, the Rabbi’s Discretionary
Fund, and the Cantor’s Discretionary Fund for enabling our students’ visit. May we each take these lessons from history and turn them into action.

Zachary's Mitzvah Project
For my Mitzvah Project I collected hockey gear and money for the Hockey in New Jersey organization. Hockey in New Jersey’s mission is to inspire youth to develop life skills, succeed academically and create positive relationships through the sport of hockey. They help under-resourced kids in New Jersey who want to play and learn hockey. I decided to donate hockey gear because hockey is a big part of my life, and I wanted to help kids who can't afford the sizable cost of the gear to be able to play as well. I started by collecting donations from my team and my friend's team. Then the Great Neck Hockey organization generously donated surplus gear. Finally I made the trip to Hockey in New Jersey’s rink in Newark to deliver the donationed gear which totaled eight bags. I was able to meet and talk with their Equipment Manager who explained to me how they will use the donated gear.

Repro Shabbat
Friday, February 13 at 7pm
On Shabbat Mishpatim, we read about reproductive rights in the Torah. For this Shabbat, we’ll be joined by Meredith Nicholson from The Red Tent Fund. This fund is a nonprofit national organization rooted in Jewish values and teachings that affirm the right to abortion for all. Meredith will share insights into Jewish history and individual rights to choose.

Thank you so much for coming together to remember and celebrate Charlie Shereff, our beloved fellow congregant and choir member, this past Shabbat.
We invite you to watch this video of memories of Charlie, with and without our choirs, beautifully put together by his daughter, Rachel Shereff, and our soundman extraordinaire, Steve Silberberg.
During services, we announced the renaming of our Music and Piano Funds as the Charlie Shereff Memorial Music Fund.
We invite you to honor him by making a contribution to our newly renamed fund. Together, we will ensure that Charlie’s dedication continues to fuel our sacred mission. May his memory always be for a blessing to his family, to us, and all those who were fortunate to know him.
