Message From Rabbi

Dear RTFH Family,

Pride has become a month dominated by selling rainbow products. But in a world where rights are actively being restricted, Pride is much more than a marketing campaign. It is a time to shout out who we are and proudly stand up for the right of every person to live authentically. Equality is a core Jewish value—one we celebrate this month and every month.

I invite you to live those values with our community this week:

  • Pride Shabbat (Friday at 7:00 PM): Please note the special 7:00 PM service time. We will welcome Yelena Goltsman from qaravan to speak on the struggle, success, and solidarity of LGBTQ+ immigrants.
  • Queens Pride March (Sunday): There is still time to sign up and march alongside your RTFH family! Or join one of the other New York area marches happening all month long.

Above all, June reminds us to highlight our love for family and friends, fiercely protect equality, and remember that love is love.

L’shalom,

Rabbi Mark

Zachary's Mitzvah Project

For my bar-mitzvah project, I decided to raise money to collect personal hygiene products for a non profit company called New York Edge. Their mission is to serve 30,000 students at over 100 schools across all five boroughs and Long Island, and over 85% of their students come from low-income households. My work mainly consisted of sending e-mails, shopping for items, and taking inventory of the items that needed to be delivered.

The main reason I chose this cause specifically was

because I think that it is something many people take for granted, and because I know it’s hard to perform well and feel good when you have to think about small things like basic hygiene.
