Despite the whirlwind of emotions that this time evokes within us, with our attention and concern being yanked at every turn, at RTFH we enter into 5785 with a commitment to joyful celebration, tzedakah (righteous acts) and learning. Last Wednesday, we danced with the Torahs on Simchat Torah until we were exhausted. Last Saturday, we made sandwiches and distributed them to the unhoused during the Midnight Run, which was hosted by our Social Action Committee.

This week, we continue by honoring the value of our RTFH community through learning what it has to teach us. On Friday evening at Shabbat Reshon, we will hear some of our younger members tell us about summer camp and why this is such a rewarding experience. This Saturday morning (November 2), our member Rabbi Irwin Goldenberg will seek to show us the meaning the Bible can have for our lives as Jews, even if we have to ask: Who Wrote the Bible? This intriguing in-person and online class will be the third of our year-long Adult Ed classes connected to Torah as we celebrate, all year long, Building Community One Letter at a Time. The Bible presents itself as of Divine origin, but most modern scholars regard it as having been written by many different human authors. Join Rabbi Irwin Goldenberg as he shares the arguments of both sides and presents a modern rationale for Jews to regard the Bible as foundational for Judaism.
