Dear RTFH Family,
In the face of horrific antisemitic attacks, we are tempted to move into the shadows. We have stayed strong by coming together as a community, holding onto our values, and not letting others determine our identity.
This past week, we saw such determination and action. On Sunday morning, numerous members of our Temple family marched in defiant joy at the Queens Pride Parade. Not only expressing that love is love, and each person should celebrate their identity, but that we will not let the LGBTQ+ community be pushed back into metaphoric legal and social closets.
On Sunday evening, our 10th grade Confirmation stood on our bimah declaring their connection to faith and what Judaism means to them. Each student is a leader and should be an inspiration to everyone for holding fast to our Judaism, perhaps especially in times of struggle and animosity.
Two different kinds of pride were celebrated on Sunday. How will you show your faith and connection to Judaism right now?

Shabbat Reshon with All Grades

Food Drive at June 6 Shabbat Reshon
As a part of this month’s Shabbat Reshon, RTFH 10th Graders Ash Joseph and Liv Kingsley will be running a food drive to help deal with food insecurity in NYC.
We are doing this as a final project for our RAC Teen Justice Fellowship, which allowed us to learn advocacy and communication skills. We would love to take these skills and use them to make a change in our community, so we decided that a food drive was the most effective way to do that.
Please bring canned and other non-perishable foods to this month’s Reshon to help make a difference in our community. Food will be collected at a table outside of the sanctuary and brought later to the Central Queens Y for donation. Thank you so much for your support and we hope to see you at services!

Pride Shabbat

Our 9th annual Pride Shabbat is a gathering of the LGBTQ+ community, family, friends, allies, and everyone! Our special guest speaker is JessAnn Smith. JessAnn is part Thank You For Coming Out as an improviser and facilitator since 2015. She is very active in developing work that serves her Jewish and LGBTQ+ communities.
JessAnn also performs and teaches with the National Chorale and plays trombone in the Lesbian & Gay Big Apple Corps. As a Jew, as part of your family, friends, or everywhere in the world – stand up for LGBTQ+ rights and show your pride!

Rabbi Rachel Goldenberg on Torah through the Lens of Kabbalah
Tuesday, June 17 at 7:30pm
Kabbalah, the Jewish mystical tradition, has a unique approach to understanding and interpreting Torah. We will read some mystical text that discusses this approach, and then we will read some Torah together, using a kabbalistic lens.
For everyone who has asked for a class on Kabbalah, this is a fantastic opportunity to learn with an outstanding teacher.
