Hello Friends,

Happy spring! What a wonderful and busy March we’ve had at RTMC. As always, we continue to focus on our mission: Repairing Homes, Revitalizing Communities, Rebuilding Lives.

I am delighted to report that we are making steady progress on our fiscal year goal to serve 180 vulnerable families in need. We have already served 104 families this fiscal year and we have dozens more projects in the pipeline. Special thanks to our fabulous staff team for their relentless hard work: Christina Devlin, Mat Saunders, Gabby Garcia, Beki Mitiku, Vivian Bacarreza Navarro, Shelby Badger, and Karen Kozopas.

Please mark your calendars for these upcoming events:

Our annual flagship event, National Rebuilding Day, is just around the corner. This year we are offering three volunteer days to choose from: April 28, April 29 or April 30, 2023. We’ll have 27 corporate and faith-based volunteer groups fan out across the county to provide critical home repairs to vulnerable families and to help several nonprofit partners with facility refresh initiatives.

She Builds, a volunteer day organized by women, with women, for women is also coming up on May 19 in partnership with members of ABC Metro Washington (Associated Builders and Contractors) Women Building Washington Committee. The group will spruce up the exterior of Interfaith Work’s New Leaf Shelter.

You are cordially invited to attend our Cheers to Volunteers event on Thursday, June 1st at Smokey Glen Farms in Gaithersburg. It will be a wonderful evening to celebrate our volunteers and supporters who make our work possible.

Finally, our RTMC Golf Tournament, chaired by Lance Wolin, will take place on Monday, October 2nd at Bretton Woods Golf Course. Golf slots are selling fast so visit our golf website for more information.

As always, your support and partnership are greatly appreciated. Thank you for all you do to help neighbors in need. We appreciate YOU!

With gratitude,

Maury Peterson

Executive Director

National Rebuilding Day Kickoff Breakfast!

The RTMC National Rebuilding Day Kickoff Breakfast was held on Saturday, March 18th and it was a huge success. The event brought together House Captains, House Ambassadors, and Volunteer Coordinators to review the goals for the event, share best practices and answer questions from the groups. A highlight of the event was to see so many of our Wisdom Keepers who have been volunteering with RTMC for DECADES. Special thanks to the RTMC Staff Team and Board for coming out in force to create a great event to support our amazing volunteers.

National Rebuilding Weekend is April 28, 29 & 30!

National Rebuilding Day will offer three volunteer days for sponsoring groups to choose from: April 28, 29 and 30. Our goal this year is to repair and revitalize 20 homes and nonprofit facilities throughout Montgomery County. Special thanks to all of our corporate and faith-based groups that have signed up to help - more than 500 volunteers will be out in force to help neighbors in need. If you can't attend, but would like to support this important project, please visit here.

Strategic Planning to Better Serve Our Homeowners

The RTMC Board of Directors and staff team met this week for a board meeting and strategic planning session. The group reviewed our goals, results, and impact and began a robust conversation on ways we can improve to better meet our mission and support our neighbors in need. Great job, team!

She Builds with ABC Metro Washington is May 19th!

Our 2023 She Builds project with Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Metro Washington will take place on Friday, May 19th. She Builds is a project By Women, For Women, With Women and the group will provide landscaping and outdoor enhancements at Interfaith Works' New Leaf Shelter, a new 30-bed emergency shelter in Rockville. If your company is a member of ABC Metro Washington and you'd like to participate, contact Beki at bmitiku@rebuildingtoghethermc.org

RTMC Loves Homeowner Feedback!

At RTMC, we love homeowner feedback. We survey our homeowners immediately at the completion of critical repairs and again six months later to check in with them and ensure they are still safe, healthy and happy with the repairs. Here's a recent six-month survey from homeowner Mr. T., who we helped with a stair lift, roll-in shower and accessibility modifications to his bathroom.

Join Us to Celebrate Our Volunteers & Supporters!

Save the Date and join us at RTMC's Cheers to Volunteers on Thursday, June 1st at Smokey Glen Farms in Gaithersburg. We look forward to welcoming our many volunteers and supporters in celebration of another great year of helping neighbors in need. More information, including sponsorship opportunities and tickets are available on our website: rebuildingtogethermc.org Special thanks to Presenting Sponsor Pettit Family Charitable Foundation which has offered a donation TRIPLE match up to $10,000!

Our Gratitude to AmeriCorps Super Star Vivian!

Vivian Bacarreza Navarro, RTMC’s AmeriCorps Home Assessment and Project Coordinator, will be finishing her AmeriCorps term in April. For her Final Service Project, she chose to translate from English to Spanish many important RTMC outreach documents. Vivian has also taken the lead on outreach to the Hispanic community. In coordination with RTMC Board President, Nancy Floreen, Vivian recently volunteered with her at a food distribution event at the Clifton Baptist Church in Silver Spring to distribute flyers. Many of the families visiting the food distribution event are Spanish-speaking and they were very appreciative of the translated documents and information about RTMC’s programs provided by Vivian. Great work, Vivian, and thank you for your service to RTMC!
