RTOGF at #NRG2024 in Orlando

Please join us for a RTOG Foundation Investigators Meeting in-person at the NRG Oncology Winter meeting in Orlando, Florida. The meeting will take place on Thursday, February 15th at 7:00PM ET.

 

This will be an opportunity to hear all the latest updates about upcoming RTOG Foundation trials, and how to become more involved with the Foundation. It will be a great opportunity to connect face-to-face with the radiation oncology community!

Accepting Applications for 2024-2025 RTOGF Communications Interns

The RTOG Foundation Communications Committee is searching for communications interns! This will be a 12-month internship, ideal for radiation oncology residents looking for ways to get involved with cancer research and other organizational activities. Interns will work with RTOG communications staff to create social media content around RTOG Foundation trials. Interns will attend virtual meetings with the communications team, RTOG Foundation Board meetings, and will also have the opportunity to attend an RTOG investigators meeting. There will be a $1,000 stipend for each intern.

Our Current RTOGF Communications Interns Discuss Their Experiences So Far

Danielle Cerbon, MD

Danielle Cerbon, MD, was selected to be one of two 2023 RTOG Foundation Communications Interns. This position began in July 2023 and will continue through July 2024. Dr. Cerbon is a PGY-4 radiation oncology resident at the University of Miami Sylvester Cancer Center and Jackson Memorial Hospital. She is currently chief resident at her residency program, as well as Chair of the Communications Committee for the Society for Women in Radiation Oncology (SWRO) where she oversees the organization’s social media platforms, website, and blog and helped launch SWRO’s Instagram account as well as produce all of their graphic designs. She is also part of the American College of Radiation Oncology (ACRO) Resident communication subcommittee where she helps with managing their Instagram account.

Rituraj Upadhyay, MD

Rituraj Upadhyay, MD, was selected to be one of two 2023 RTOG Foundation Communications Interns. This position began in July 2023 and will continue through July 2024. Dr. Upadhyay is currently the chief resident in the Department of Radiation Oncology at The Ohio State University Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital. He is also a member of the Association of Residents in Radiation Oncology (ARRO) communications and global health subcommittee as well as a Radiological Society of North American (RSNA) resident representative for 2023. Dr. Upadhyay expressed that he believes effective communication plays a vital role in trial enrollment as well as shaping public perception and behavior towards cancer care.

New Investigator Spotlight:

Shearwood 'Woody' McClelland III, MD

Shearwood ‘Woody’ McClelland III, MD is the Director of Spine Oncology in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center and Assistant Professor of Radiation Oncology and Neurological Surgery at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Dr. McClelland’s work focuses on radiation-based modalities for treating central nervous system disease with an emphasis on investigating disparities in healthcare access. He led the first nationwide analysis of spine stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) utilization in the United States and has authored numerous published articles in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. McClelland is the Principal Investigator of an ongoing Phase II neuro-oncology randomized controlled trial, and his research (TheMcClellandLab.com) has been funded for a total of $1.4 million by several agencies including the National Institutes of Health, Susan G Komen, Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation, American Society for Radiation Oncology, and Gilead Sciences.
