NEWS & EVENTS
Fall Open House 

High school students and adults who are interested in pursuing a college degree or certificate are invited to attend RVCC's Fall Open House, Saturday, October 13, 10 a.m.-noon, at the College's Branchburg campus.

You'll have an opportunity to tour the campus, meet faculty and current students, and learn about:
  • How to become an RVCC student
  • Student clubs, organizations and athletic teams
  • Services to help you make a successful transition to college
  • Programs designed to help you transfer to top colleges and universities in NJ, across the country, and even in Europe
  • Career training programs, designed in partnership with local industry, that can be completed in a year or less
  • Paying for college, including financial aid opportunities

October Information Sessions, Campus Tours

Learn about all RVCC has to offer by attending an Information Session at the College's Branchburg campus. The College is offering General Information Sessions as well as special sessions for adults and those interested in its Cosmetology and Esthetics (Skin Care) career programs.

Information Session for Electric Utility Technology Program

Learn about how to become a line worker or substation electrician in the electric utility industry by attending an information session for the Power Systems Institute program offered by Jersey Central Power & Light, a FirstEnergy company, in partnership with RVCC, November 1, 6-8 p.m., in the College's Conference Center.

The Power Systems Institute is a unique two-year program featuring learning experiences both inside and outside of the classroom. Tuition, required books and lab fees will be paid by JCP&L for qualified students.

National Award for Diversity Initiatives

For the fifth time, RVCC has been honored with the Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine. The national honor recognizes U.S. colleges and universities that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion.

New OTA Lab Opens

RVCC recently held a ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the official opening of its new Occupational Therapy Assistant laboratory.

In January, RVCC became the first community college in New Jersey to offer an Associate of Applied Science degree for an in-demand career as an Occupational Therapy Assistant.

Raffle Tickets to Assist Scholarship Fund

The RVCC Foundation is selling raffle tickets to raise funds for scholarships for students attending RVCC. This year, in celebration of the College's 50th Anniversary, the Foundation is offering 10 exceptional prizes. The person holding the first-prize winning raffle ticket may choose from three different trips: 1) Barcelona, Spain; 2) Bordeaux, France; and 3) Edinburgh, Scotland.

The drawing will be held at RVCC's 50th Anniversary Golden Harvest Gala, October 25, at The Palace at Somerset Park, Somerset. Raffle ticket winners do not have to be present at the 8:35 p.m. drawing.

Mini-Grant to Advance Electoral Engagement

RVCC has received a $1,850 mini-grant to participate in Engage the Elections: 2018, a program that aims to advance non-partisan electoral engagement on community college campuses. RVCC is one of only 14 community colleges in the country--and the only NJ college--to be awarded the mini-grant.

FACULTY CORNER 
Professor's Film Receives Award at Festival

A film project by Esther Duran, Assistant Professor of Film & Digital Media, received the award as BEST WEB SERIES at the prestigious Reel Sisters of the Diaspora Annual Film Festival and Lecture Series in New York City.   

One of the series' episodes, "Chocolate, a Family Affair," is scheduled for a screening and Q&A on October 21, at 6 p.m., at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, Brooklyn, NY. Click here to learn more about the festival. The series can be viewed at www.en.chocolatito.tv. The series also has been selected to participate at the Rio Web Festival in Brazil in November.  
Exhibit Features 25 Years of Work

The Last Look Back: 25 Years of Photo-Printmaking by Donna Stackhouse is on display in the RVCC Art Gallery through October 19. The exhibition features digitally manipulated photographs that have been printed using a variety of printmaking techniques, including lithography and intaglio. Stackhouse, a Professor of Photography & Printmaking, is retiring later this year.

Faculty Member Pens New Poetry Book

Charlie Bondhus, Associate Professor of English, is the author of a new book of poetry, Divining Bones (Sundress Publications). In Divining Bones, Bondhus uses magick and the occult to explore the fluidity of age, gender, and self-perception in this radical and playful book.

PLANETARIUM
Planetarium Director Advises on Book

RVCC Planetarium Director Amie Gallagher is the scientific advisor for The Solar System, a new children's book that was published in September by the Little Golden Book series. The simple yet informative, illustrated book brings the Solar System to life for preschoolers, with information about the planets, satellites, spacecraft and more.
October Star Shows, Laser Concerts

The Planetarium is planning a number of terrific events in October, including special Halloween theme programs, laser concerts, and astronomy shows that explain the wonders of the universe.
