THE TRUMPETER - August 2024

President's Message - Sue Davis

You and I live in a Red Yavapai County bubble, surrounded by chaos.

Turn on the radio, tv, or your phone app…. Facebook, Twitter X, mailers. Deciphering the sensory overload is overwhelming!  It is not only overwhelming; it can even feel daunting, threatening, and depressing.  I limit my media input time to mostly reading the news (to filter out hyperbole), but it’s still crazy!

How do we process current political happenings and fight for our country when all appears out of control?

  • An Olympic Opening Ceremony mocking God with a drag queen parody of the Last Supper?
  • The transfer of political power without one single democrat vote?
  • An assassination attempt that the Dems refuse to acknowledge?
  • Power brokers and Hollywood moguls promoting and funding democrat candidates?
  • Corrupt Federal agencies and judicial systems?
  • A vice president who is insubordinate and derelict in performing her duties?

Here’s something else to keep you up at night…

If democrat backroom manipulators choose AZ senator Mark Kelly to run with cackling Kamala, guess who backfills Mark Kelly’s open seat?   Yep, “California Katie Hobbs”.

And guess whose wife (Gabby Gifford) just donated $15 million to boost Kamala Harris and gun safety candidates?  The Gifford group is focusing on swing states to assist “gun safety champions” with ads and staffing to renew the ban on assault weapons. Does anyone see where this ban will take the 2nd Amendment?

Do you think George Soros (or his heir, Alexander Soros) will have any input? Is Arizona a swing state? Troubles are coming, and they will find us. And the sad part is that many of us are funding the Biden/Harris liberal activism machine. Yes, I said funding! More on that later…

When you read this, one or more of our chosen candidates will have already made their concession speech. You and I will congratulate candidates who are now “our” Republican candidates—yes, the same ones YOU fought so hard against in the primary.

The primaries aren’t always pretty, but it’s time to bury the hatchet and make amends. We’re entering an “all hands on deck” phase of 2024. Our captains have been chosen and survived round one, but all that matters now is putting these Republicans into Arizona leadership.

Think this is the easy part?  Let’s not be complacent or arrogant.

We live in a pivotal battleground state, and all eyes are on Arizona - YOUR Arizona.

Democrats have done an excellent job of painting conservatives as evil, hateful racists when they get away with saying, “Republicans think women should stay home and obey their husbands” (cue commentary on JD Vance), or “Conservatives are Nazis,” or “Trump will put us all in camps.”

Dems and their media will work hard to ensure the truth never gets out. While they press on to "save democracy," they seek to corrupt it in every way possible. They tell us our God-given rights are "not absolute" (Joe Biden); they corrupt definitions to make it impossible to speak truth (calling men women); and they lie so frequently and so convincingly that their falsehoods are unquestioned by many.

Kamala - the “people's choice” is another one of these lies, and perhaps the most insidious one of all because it's under the guise of “saving democracy,”  the democracy they are destroying altogether. The democrat electors will nominate Kamala Harris despite her not receiving even a single, solitary vote from any American voter. And the Dems are fortifying their war chest with big names and donors, like the Obamas, the Hollywood set, and powerful democrat PACs.  How can her candidacy be “grassroots” if she's received no votes?

Kamala and her party think that she can slide into Biden's spot all the way to the Oval Office, with heavy-hitting donors and pre-scheduled debates, and they're going to use every undemocratic tool they can find to do it.  This is the holy grail of elections for the liberal media. Remember, they got Joe Biden elected as he campaigned from his basement!

Paid and unpaid ballot chasers, petition signature collectors, and liberal zealots are already here in Yavapai County, thanks to the Dems. In Walmart and Fry’s parking lots and at the farmers' markets, they go into your neighborhood door to door.  That, my friends, is a good plan, but we can and will do better!  We need to counter, copy, and outsmart the Democratic tactics. Not the cheating part, but how about a little “cultural appropriation” on how the dems train community organizers, stand together through thick and thin, and focus on the goal?  Yavapai County is our community - not theirs, and Arizona is our state. We know our neighbors, our communities, and our RWOP organization, and we must chase these paid zealots all the way back to Tucson, Phoenix, or wherever they came from.

Meanwhile, on the local level, if you’re attending the August RWOP lunch meeting in two weeks, please reach out to the local winners of the Republican primary and get involved. Every position we fill with Republicans cannot be overstated. The democrats are hyperventilating into paper bags right now; the national stage looks messy for them, but Katie Hobbs and her cabal still own way too much Arizona power. Liberals in Phoenix, Flagstaff, and Tucson have a numerical advantage over Yavapai County.

Back to my previous statement that you may be funding the Democrats.  Do you unintendedly fund leftist companies that espouse woke values?

How about Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings writing a $7 million check to fund Kamala Harris’ campaign?  I immediately cancelled my subscription!   These small steps make a huge impact collectively!

And then follow the money trail to individual candidates or parties…

At any level that you can, to any degree, please help your Republican brothers and sisters wage this war against the scourge of anti-freedom “progressive goals” such as the Green New Deal; Diversity, Equity & Inclusion; BLM; Antifa; censorship, mandates, moronic pronoun indoctrination, and tribal divisiveness.

The Republican National Committee endorses a fundraising platform called WinRed, through which you can donate to local, state, and federal Republican war chests.

Yep, I’m a donor too.

Your help is part of a collective; together we fight and win, or give up and be ruled by authoritarianism, wokeism, socialism and censorship (was Covid a dress rehearsal for martial law?).

We can all help - let’s not slip further into the unreal yuck of the democrat liberal social experiment.

And finally, please continue to pray for our country, the safety of Donald Trump, his family and for the families of the those affected by the assassin.

Special Olympics of Arizona provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in various Olympic-type sports. This is available for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, and it gives them opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, and share gifts, skills, and friendships with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.

The transformative power of sports to instill confidence, improve health, and inspire a sense of competition is at the core of what Special Olympics does. The power of sports shifts focus to what our athletes CAN do, not what they can’t.

Please visit the Caring for America booth at the August luncheon for information on how you can make a donation to Special Olympics.

Americanism - Susan Cohen

“Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there…”

With the political and baseball seasons in full swing, now more than ever, one can hear our National Anthem almost daily. Many know who authored “The Star-Spangled Banner,” but little is known about the when, where, why, and aftermath of where that flag is today.

Ft. McHenry was established to protect the complex waterway system and entry into Baltimore. Two flags were commissioned by commander of the fort Major George Armistead – one 17’ x 25’ and one 30’ x 42’, both made by Mary Pickersgill, a local flag maker in 1813. Just for perspective, the flag’s scale was about one-fourth the size of a modern basketball court and reflects its purpose as a garrison flag – to be seen.

Different from our first flag with 13 stars representing the 13 original colonies, this flag had 15 stars which included the newest states of Vermont and Kentucky.

A year earlier in 1812, the British had attacked the fledgling United States and had burned the US Capitol and the White House, causing great damage with President James Madison, his wife Dolley, and staff barely escaping. Congress then declared war on Britain lasting for over 2 years.

On the morning of September 13, 1814, British Admiral Cochrane’s ships began a 25-hour bombardment of the fort. Rockets whistled through the air and burst into flame wherever they struck. Mortars fired 10- and 13-inch bombshells that exploded overhead in fiery showers.

When Key saw “by the dawn’s early light” of September 14, 1814, that the larger of the two American flags being hoisted declaring defeat over the British, albeit a flag that was bombed and torn to a size now of 30’ x 34’ soared above the fort, he knew that Fort McHenry had not surrendered. Moved by the sight, he began to compose a poem on the back of a letter he was carrying.

He wrote the poem, "Defence of Fort McHenry" which was published within a week to the tune of a popular song "To Anacreon in Heaven." The song with Key's lyrics became known as "The Star-Spangled Banner" and over time became the unofficial anthem. It was in 1931 that the song became our official national anthem under Republican President Herbert Hoover.

Preserved by the Armistead family since the War of 1812, it was on loan in 1907 to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History in Washington, DC, and became a permanent display in 1912.
