*Doing together what we cannot do alone

Weekly Message

Dear Friend,

Rosa is a participant in Friends In Deed’s Safe Parking program. While living in her car isn’t easy, she at least has the peace of mind to know that she can park in a safe place. However, one obstacle continued to blur her path: she needed glasses, and couldn’t afford them.

Though she had Medi-Cal, she learned that it was no longer being accepted for eye exams at the clinic she visited. It felt like yet another door closed at a time when she needed clarity—literally and figuratively.

Thanks to a special grant from UniHealth, Friends In Deed was able to cover the cost of her eye exam and glasses. Now, with clear vision, Rosa is navigating her daily life with greater confidence.

Hopefully, this story inspires you to “see” how important our work is on a daily basis, especially with something as critical as eyesight. You can support our mission to help people like Rosa by joining us at two upcoming events!

On Monday, September 29th, we are hosting our third annual Cooking for a Cause event, a night of chef competition, fun, and great energy–all in the service of raising critical funds for our Food Pantry. There are many ways to support the event: become a sponsor, purchase tickets, or donate to our $10,000 Crowdfunding Challenge. Plus, everyone is welcome to watch the livestream of the event. Don’t miss it!

And, on Monday, November 3rd, our Golfing for Good event returns! Join us for a day on the links at Brookside Golf Club, with foursomes, plus sponsorship opportunities, tee-sign purchases, an opportunity drawing, and a hole-in-one chance to win a car! We are so grateful to have Pat Wickhem driving our efforts again this year–thank you! Get all of the details on our website and sign up now.

Each day, women like Rosa and hundreds of other unhoused and vulnerable folks look to us for help and support. Thank you for making our motto a reality: “doing together what we cannot do alone.”

Blessings and have a lovely weekend,

Rabbi Joshua
