*Doing together what we cannot do alone | | |
Dear Friend,
We live in very challenging times, where each day seems to bring more news of pain, suffering, and even despair. It can be hard to find the glimmers of hope and light during times like these. So, at Friends in Deed, it is the small moments, the potentially overlooked moments, that bring us hope and light. This recent experience in the Food Pantry is precisely one of those moments.
When Oliver first visited our Food Pantry, he came for groceries, but found something much more meaningful. Originally from the UK, Oliver shared with one of our volunteers how struck he was by the energy of the place.
“You can feel how much everyone cares,” he said. “Everyone is so gracious and kind. And it’s such a beautiful mix of people—it doesn’t feel like anyone’s doing a job. It feels like they’re just happy to be here.”
His words captured what we strive for every day: a community built not just on service, but on genuine human connection.
The entire pantry community, staff, volunteers, and participants, come together to help create the atmosphere that Oliver found so moving. And for as long as Oliver and the nearly 700 households coming through our doors weekly need us, we will be here with the same warm and welcoming embrace.

Just as Oliver felt the kindness and connection in our Food Pantry, our upcoming Cooking for a Cause event is a chance to come together and make that same impact possible for so many more families. On Monday, September 29, three incredible chef teams will face off in a live cooking competition to raise critical funds for the Food Pantry.
There’s still time to get involved: join our crowdfunding challenge and help us reach our $10,000 goal, tune into the livestream on Monday at 6:20 p.m., or even become a sponsor.
Every gift ensures that when neighbors like Oliver walk through our doors, they find more than food; they find community and care.
Blessings and have a lovely weekend,
Rabbi Joshua
