*Doing together what we cannot do alone

Weekly Message

Dear Friend,

When Sam first connected with Friends In Deed, he was living in his van. Even after it broke down, Sam never gave up. He kept showing up and working with Friends In Deed staff to get all his paperwork in place in order to better his circumstances. That perseverance paid off when he was matched into local supportive housing, where he lived for more than two years in a single room with a shared kitchen and bathroom.

But Sam wanted more independence. With support from William on our FID Intensive Case Management Services (ICMS) team, Sam got sober, received a housing voucher, and found a new apartment in Pasadena. This time, it’s a one-bedroom with his own kitchen and bathroom.

Sam shared that he hasn’t lived in an apartment like this in twenty years. Now, he finally has a home of his own.

It’s hard to believe that we are just 2 weeks away from Thanksgiving! At FID, we want to make sure families in our Food Pantry community have the opportunity to sit around their tables with traditional foods of the holiday.

So, that means Operation Gobbler is here! We have 450 households signed up, so we need your help—turkeys, boxes of stuffing, canned yams, etc. A reminder that we don’t provide any cooked food, so the best way you can help is by donating frozen turkeys, please. You can drop them off this Saturday, and next Friday and Saturday between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Finally, we can’t thank you enough for the amazing generosity we have experienced over the past few weeks. We are so grateful for the food drives, Amazon boxes, and monetary contributions. Please watch our short video for the latest update. And, now that the federal government is reopened, SNAP benefits have been reinstated and the most vulnerable can breathe a small sigh of relief. No matter what happens, FID will be here to provide compassion and dignity.

Blessings and have a lovely weekend,

Rabbi Joshua
