Dear Friend,
Just a few months ago, Monica was unhoused and constantly on the move. A guest of The Women’s Room (TWR), she was working with Jane, TWR Case Manager, and Jason, an MSW Intern on Friends In Deed’s Street Outreach and Housing team, to create a plan toward stability. When the time came, Jane provided a warm handoff to Jason, ensuring Monica had steady support every step of the way.
Recognizing the urgency of her situation, Jason enlisted the help of Najwa, Housing Navigator and Outreach Liaison, and together, they moved quickly to connect Monica to bridge housing in Long Beach.
Within just a month—a remarkably fast timeline for the team—Monica was off the streets and settling into a safe, temporary place to call home. Her journey continues, but now she’s on firmer ground, surrounded by a team that’s committed to helping her move forward.
Being an unhoused woman is one of the most dangerous and vulnerable places to be. We are so grateful that TWR continues to be a place of immense refuge and safety for 35-40+ women daily. And now, with the expanded partnership between TWR and our Street Outreach and Housing team, women can be assisted in all aspects of their journey. FID staff provide them with the necessary support to guide them from the streets into housing.
This has been a goal for years, and I am thrilled that it is coming to fruition; the trust that our staff builds with guests and clients crosses over from one program to the next, allowing people to continue to feel the safety and security of the compassion and dignity that are at the core of our mission.
