Light Shabbat candles at 5:54 p.m.
Dear Congregation Kehillah and Friends,

A new beginning! Parashat Bereshit contains the story of the creation of the world, according to Jewish tradition. There are numerous creation “myths” emanating from various civilizations and cultures. One of the most famous creation stories is known as the Enuma Elish, told by early ancient peoples such as the Babylonians and Sumerians. Our Torah introduced a revolutionary theory about the creation of heaven, earth, and human life. While other ancient peoples attributed creation to numerous gods, the Torah begins by teaching that God alone created everything and that we are not here by accident, but have a unique design and purpose; that
creation is a blessing, and that we are responsible for each other and for all creation.

Bereshit is much more than a “report” of how the world was created!

Time for a new beginning…
