NEW IBERIA, La. --- Registration is now open for Sir Speedy Acadiana 5K & 1 Mile Fun Run to be held on the streets of scenic New Iberia on Sat., April 4, 2020. The race is in conjunction with the Books Along the Teche Literary Festival (April 3 - 5) and all proceeds benefit the cultural activities of the Iberia Preservation Alliance.
The event will begin at 8 a.m. at Bouligny Plaza (128 W. Main St., New Iberia). Awards, including medals and trophies, will immediately follow the race. Race t-shirts will also be available to all registered participants.
New this year, the run will offer team competition for three or more members, and family registration for parents and their young children. Teams get a $5 discount on each member's registration. The team with the fastest three combined times will be the winner.

Day of the race registration will be available. Registration and packet pickup begins at 6:45 a.m. with the 1 mile fun run starting at 8 a.m. and the 5k race at 8:30 a.m.
Cost
The entry fee for each race is as follows:
- 1 Mile Fun Run - $25
- Youth (ages 1-14) 1 Mile Fun Run - $20
- 5k Run/Walk - $25
- Youth (ages 1-14) 5k Run/Walk - $20
- 5K Family Event (2-3 members, parents and young children) - $35
- 5K Team (3 and more members) - $20 per person
Awards
Awards will be given for the 5k race's "Top Overall Male and Female," as well as 1st, 2nd, 3rd place in Male division and 1st, 2nd, 3rd place in Female division in each age group.
Awards will also be given for the 1 mile fun run's "Top Overall Male and Female" and for the 14 & Under category.

With a focus on Great Southern Writers, the Books Along the Teche Literary Festival highlights Iberia Parish authors and others who write about the unique culture of Louisiana. Events include cooking demonstrations, workshops on writing, book fair, academic symposiums, receptions, poetry, music, live oak walk, movie screenings, children's activities, readers theater and more. Participants can learn Cajun dancing or how to play bouree, and tour the areas described in the Dave Robicheaux novels.
