Rachael Johnson, candidate for Civil District Court, Division B is proud to receive the endorsement of the AFL-CIO.
Johnson stated, "I am thrilled to have the support of this important organization. The AFL-CIO is the heart of the labor movement and does an outstanding job of representing the interests of working people at every level. It means a lot to me to know that the AFL-CIO believes me to be the best qualified candidate to serve the people of Orleans Parish as Judge for Civil District Court, Division B."
The election for Civil District Court is March 25, 2017. Early voting is March 11-March 18, 2017.
Rachael Johnson has an impressive set of credentials that she brings to her candidacy. She is a senior staff attorney for Hartford Insurance and has litigated over 450 cases across Louisiana. Ms. Johnson began her career as a law intern for the Honorable Dale N. Atkins, Clerk of Civil District Court and went on to serve as a law clerk for the Honorable Nadine Ramsey, Civil District Court. She moved to Florida for a time where she served as an assistant City Attorney.
Born and raised in New Orleans, Ms. Johnson graduated from McDonough #35 Senior High School. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Spelman College in Atlanta and has an MSW degree in clinical social work from Smith College. She earned a law degree from Tulane University School of Law and is a graduate of the Loyola Institute of Politics.
Rachael Johnson is a leader in the legal field and in her community. She is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Board of Governors, Past President of the Greater New Orleans Louis A. Martinet Society, Co-Chair of Programs for the A.P. Tureaud Inn of Court and a Board Member of the New Orleans Bar Association and the Pro Bono Project.
Ms. Johnson is an active member of her church, Greater St. Stephen Full Gospel Baptist Church and a proud member of the Paul S. Morton Scholarship Foundation Board. She volunteers for the Second Harvest Food Bank, is a member of the New Orleans chapter of the Links, Inc. and Vice President of the New Orleans Chapter of the National Alumnae Association of Spelman College.
When asked why she decided to run for this judicial office, Ms. Johnson said, "I am humbled by the opportunity to take this step towards becoming a judge. It is an awesome undertaking not to be entered into lightly. This job requires an even temperament, a firm set of values, a commitment to administer justice, and a commitment to allow everyone an opportunity to have their say and be treated with respect. These are all part of my DNA."
Ms. Johnson is the daughter of the late Paul R. Johnson, Sr. and Chief Justice Bernette J. Johnson.
