Up, up and away

The skies over the Upper Valley will fill with balloons again June 14-16 when New England's longest-running annual hot air balloon festival returns to Quechee, VT. Enjoy highlights from the 2021 and 2023 festival captured by Samantha Davidson Green and Rick Russell for JAM, then maybe you'll be inspired to book a balloon ride this year and float among the stars!

Drug Company Abuse

At a Burlington press conference on escalating medical costs on May 17, U.S. Senator Peter Welch expressed shock at VT's "unreal" housing prices, called out prescription drug prices as "outrageous" due to drug companies' "abuse" of the market and government policies, and called for reform. "The price gouging has got to stop."

Recycled Fashion

Middle schoolers' fashion visions became reality last week at JAM when rePlay Arts presented "reUse Runway," the culmination of a spring after-school program teaching design with recycled materials. The fashionistas rocked the red carpet in styles ranging from "sassy purple-ilicious" and "fashionable feathers" to "ice-cream drip." JAM's after-school media club was there to capture the glamor!

CIVIC ENGAGEMENT @JAM

View Public Meetings

This week's civic highlight: The towns of Hanover and Lebanon have approved Gaza cease-fire resolutions. Hartford's Selectboard was set to vote yesterday. Citizens spoke pro and con at last week's meeting. "The Selectboard has a moral obligation," said member Brandon Smith, who was arrested protesting at Dartmouth in May. "Where do we stop as a board at calling out things?" asked board member Lannie Collins.

Tune into government and school meetings LIVE on JAM cable channels 1075/1085 (Comcast) or 169/170 VTEL, streaming on our website, or JAM's YouTube channel, or find recordings by searching JAM On-Demand for your town's meeting recordings.
