"One of the best bands that I've heard coming out of Australia this year."

“Why the f*ck would you come to one of their shows? You come for the precise post-punk riffs. You come for the endless energy and enthusiastic lyrics. You stay to watch one of Australia’s most exciting guitar bands in years up close.”

Naarm/Melbourne new wave/post-punk band Radio Free Alice are excited to share new single “Rule 31,” celebrating the recent end of a European tour which culminated in a sold-out stop at London’s Scala last week. Produced with Peter Katis [Interpol, The National] in Connecticut while touring earlier this year, “Rule 31” packs an urgency worthy of Radio Free Alice’s burgeoning reputation as a global one to watch: their venues grow bigger while their tickets become harder to come by.

“Rule 31 came about during a soundcheck whilst on tour,” frontman Noah Learmonth explains. “The bassline came first and we just built it up from there. We recorded it at Peter’s beautiful house-studio in Connecticut when we had a couple days off from shows.”

Radio Free Alice have also just announced that they will join Geese for their sold-out February tour of Australia, featuring stops at Sydney, Melbourne & Perth. More global performances will be announced soon.

When Radio Free Alice made their way over to the UK late in the summer of 2025, expectations were measured. The band had garnered a respectable following here through two well-received EPs and a tireless approach to touring underground venues since 2023. Nothing, however, could have prepared them for the reception that awaited their arrival this time around. One show sold out immediately. Then another. And another until the quartet had six sold-out headlines in London alone; each full to capacity with lively, crowd-surfing fans and one supporter with a Radio Free Alice tattoo emblazoned across his torso.

This caught the attention of Reading & Leeds Festival, who booked Radio Free Alice a few weeks ahead of their event to another immense turnout. Sold-out dates in the USA followed, which included three sold-out performances in New York City, a stop at The Lot Radio, and a set at Shaky Knees, before the band quickly announced the current flock of UK headlines, all of which promptly sold out.

The group will return to the UK and Europe next year for a string of festivals, including Tramlines Festival in Sheffield and Truck Festival, Abingdon, both just announced last week.

Recorded between Katis in Connecticut and Ali Chant [Dry Cleaning, Perfume Genius, Soccer Mommy] in Bristol & London, August’s Empty Words EP – Radio Free Alice’s third – saw the band reaching a larger audience than ever before; a galvanising moment for the snowballing fanbase accumulated through the band’s tenacious live schedule. Over its four tracks, Radio Free Alice excavate the lingering sensation that culture is slipping into an unhealthy, self-induced cycle of indulgent sentimentality without feeling. Lead single "Toyota Camry" received heavy rotation on BBC 6 Music, while DORK christened Empty Words EPsmart, stylish and already sounding like a future cult classic” in their 5-star review.

PRAISE FOR RADIO FREE ALICE

NME: “Revitalising the distinct ’80s basslines and sharp guitar riffs of The Smiths and Joy Division, Melbourne’s Radio Free Alice have staked their claim as a rising force…they’ve displayed their strength in transforming nostalgic, gritty post-punk sounds into something much more sleek and concise.”

STEREOGUM: “...punchy with a snappy melody that feels like early Arctic Monkeys or Bloc Party. Some guitars swim in waves of reverb, while others are tire trucks on gravel, alongside a formidably anchoring bass. It’s far from a dull song, but its lyrics fixate on boredom’s biggest victim.”

MATT WILKINSON, APPLE MUSIC 1: "one of the best bands that I've heard coming out of Australia this year"

ROLLING STONE AUSTRALIA: “Why the f*ck would you come to one of their shows? You come for the precise post-punk riffs. You come for the endless energy and enthusiastic lyrics. You stay to watch one of Australia’s most exciting guitar bands in years up close.”

CLASH: “clipped, evocative, 80s leaning indie”

THE LINE OF BEST FIT: “Fans are lining up around the block to listen to their smouldering, reverb-laden live performances, and we don’t blame them for braving the heat. The hype is all due to the band’s classic DIY sound, which manages to feel both nostalgic and new.”

ESQUIRE AUSTRALIA: “Brit post-punk energy teasing an upbeat yet relaxed autumn/winter offering”

NEW NOISE: “With its jagged guitars and light, bouncy rhythm, ‘Empty Words’ is, at times, a breezy track and, at other times, an emotionally intense rocker. As the lyrics rail against performative politics that don’t accomplish anything, the intensity of the vocal delivery really sells the anger.”

GLIDE: “‘Toyota Camry’ is the lead single from the upcoming EP that balances ambitious musicianship with introspective lyrics. The arrangement acts as the speeding car bolting down an open highway, while the lyrics act as the driver, deep in thought while attempting to clear their mind.”

RIFF: “The searing guitar licks and a catchy bass line stand out on their second single from the album. The song features a fuzzy sound that complements vocalist Noah Learmonth’s cleverly delivered, introspective lyrics…”

HARD OF HEARING: “one of the most compelling acts to catch live.”
