Radiodays Europe
I recently returned from the 2019 Radiodays Conference held in Lausanne, Switzerland. Each year, this conference grows larger, this year having over 2000 broadcasters in attendance. These radio broadcasters come from 120 countries from all over Europe, Asia, Australia and Canada. They even let a few Americans in. I'm one of the lucky ones!

I'm always struck by how similar are our opportunities and concerns no matter what country we hail from or what language we speak. Broadcasters the world over are a small, tight-knit group.

This year's topics included everything from how to write great creative, new ideas for promotions, connecting with your audience, podcasting and interviews with top presenters from around the world, to more serious topics concerning fake news and investigative journalism. Digital was high on everyone's mind as well.

We had some time to enjoy Lausanne also. One night we held our reception at the Olympic Museum. We sampled Swiss wines and chocolates. And, we shared with one another.

I've met great friends while attending these conferences. And, I never fail to learn.

My thanks to the hard-working committee that put this conference together. Next year.....Lisbon!

Vance Harrison
V ance Harrison, past President of the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters, was inducted into the Oklahoma Radio Hall of Fame on April 5.

Vance became fascinated with radio as a young child and entered the profession in 1978 at WXRT in Chicago. Ten years later, he moved to Oklahoma to become General Manager of KOMA AM/FM and KRXO. Later on, he added KMGL to his duties and oversaw KBEZ and KHTT in Tulsa.

Vance has served as President of the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters since 2007. He also served as president of NASBA two years ago.

I had the privilege of working with Vance during part of my tenure as Market Manager for Renda Broadcasting. He is truly a "Level 5" manager. I learned much from him.

My congratulations to my friend, Vance Harrison!

"If you think about it, our world is a rich tapestry of cultures, languages, landscape, colors and people. Technology has helped to diffuse boundaries, whether physical or cultural. We call our world a "global village" because though we belong to different countries, we are essentially a single race."
