News & Updates from the Radnor GOP
We're committed to keeping you informed about local and national issues that impact Radnor residents.
Chairman's Message
Dear Radnor Voters:

In November, we have an opportunity to make an enormous difference in the direction of our national agenda.  Pearl Kim is the spectacular Republican candidate running for Congress in Pennsylvania’s newly created 5 th Congressional District. There is more information about Pearl’s campaign within this newsletter and here . Pearl is running against a very liberal Democrat who would most certainly vote to return Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House of Representatives, given the opportunity. A Nancy Pelosi-led House of Representatives would be disastrous and would seek to undo all of the good governance policies of the Republican administration and Congress.

While we have many great candidates running for State and Federal offices this fall, Pearl is a singularly compelling figure who is more than worthy of your support – and she is a long time Radnor resident and graduate of Bryn Mawr College and Villanova Law School. If you want to make a difference this fall, consider doing one or more of the following:

  • Make a donation to Pearl’s campaign.
  • Volunteer to help her campaign through the Radnor Republican Committee.
  • Spread the good word of Pearl’s candidacy through your social networks.

Republican and Democrat registrations in Radnor are just about equal, so turnout is key. Republican turnout in the last two local elections has been dismal, while the angry Democrats turned out more voters . When Republicans stay home, “you get the government you vote for.”  The result has been dysfunction on our local School Board and Township Board of Commissioners – tune in for yourselves and see the results of Democrat leadership of those two boards – irresponsible spending, cronyism, and maybe even a shiny new medical marijuana dispensary!
Make a difference this fall – donate some of your time and talent to supporting Pearl and the rest of our admirable slate of Republican candidates. Get involved with local campaigns, make a donation, agree to put up a yard sign. But, most importantly, vote for our candidates!

If you would like to help the Radnor Republicans on behalf of Pearl Kim or in any other capacity, email us at volunteer@radnorgop.org. We welcome your participation!

Radnor Township School Board Update
The School Board approved a $98.3 million “maintenance budget” at its May 22 meeting, resulting in a tax increase of 2.4%, or 0.5568 mills. Tax bills were sent out in late June; if you haven’t received yours, please contact the School District immediately, as you will incur penalties should you miss the October 31 payment deadline. Pay by August 31 to take advantage of the early payment discount.

In other news, the Board recently signed a five-year contract with the Administrative staff, renewed its solicitor arrangement with Wisler-Pearlstine for an additional year with no increase, and approved new Spanish and multi-variable calculus textbooks.

We’re particularly pleased to report that Superintendent Ken Batchelor, who was hired under the previous GOP-led Board (including former Directors Susan Michaelson and Dave Falcone, along with Republicans Chuck Madden, Pattie Booker, Mike Miller, and Julia Bohnenberger), ended his first full year with outstanding reviews from all constituencies. While the Board is now led by Democrats, Mr. Batchelor is a legacy of Republican leadership.

As a reminder, in the November 2017 election, both Mr. Falcone and Ms. Michaelson were unseated in the anti-Trump wave as it played out in Radnor. Many Democrats who had never previously voted or had rarely voted in a local election came to the polls, and flooded the results. The discord and antics of the Democrat-led Board during the first half of 2018 should be testament enough that elections have consequences, and YOUR VOTE MATTERS IN RADNOR.

In November of 2019, five Board seats will open up, four of which are currently held by Republicans. If you are interested in running for School Board – and we hope some of you are – please contact Susan Michaelson at Michaelson@RadnorGOP.org
Radnor Township Board of Commissioners Update
Radnor Republicans held majority control of our Board of Commissioners for several months this spring. Under the leadership of commissioners Luke Clark (3 rd Ward), Rich Booker (2 nd Ward), Jake Abel (6 th Ward), and Matt Marshall (appointed 1 st Ward interim commissioner), Republicans were able to implement good governance programs aimed at making the township government more effective and responsive to citizens.

As one example, while most businesses and government agencies competitively bid contract services, Radnor had failed to competitively bid its most expensive professional services (i.e., legal and accounting) during more than eight years of Democrat control of the BOC. Under Republican leadership, these services have been competitively bid for the first time in eight years, resulting in the potential for more competent and less expensive professional services for the township. Other Republican initiatives have increased transparency of our township boards and commissions and banned cell phone towers from our township parks. Not surprisingly, the Democrats, who once again control the BOC, are contemplating reversing these good governance initiatives.

The Democrats regained control the Board of Commissioners after the May special elections in the 1 st and 7 th Wards. Please continue to support Luke, Rich, and Jake as they fight for efficient, effective government services for Radnor. In the coming months, the Board of Commissioners will consider re-zoning for a medical marijuana dispensary, investing more township resources in the Willows mansion, and other important matters that affect our taxes and our quality of life. Let them know how you feel about these key issues by emailing Luke ( lclark@radnor.org), Rich ( rbooker@radnor.org) and Jake ( jabel@radnor.org). Email addresses for other commissioners are available here.

“[Pearl]’s a law-and-order type person. I think she’s what we need in Congress – a female leader who can straighten things out right now.” - Hugh Organ, associate executive director of Covenant House.
