Dear Raider Families,
What a great week to be a Raider! From celebrating our students' accomplishments to honoring our senior athletes and cheering on our teams, we have so much to be proud of at Sonora High School. Every week, I am reminded that what makes Sonora special isn't just what our students accomplish, but who they are and how they support one another.
Celebrating Academic Excellence — NHS Induction Ceremony
This week, we celebrated our students at the National Honor Society Induction Ceremony. It was a wonderful evening recognizing students who demonstrate excellence in scholarship, leadership, service, and character. These students represent the very best of Sonora, and we are incredibly proud of their hard work and commitment to making a difference. Congratulations to all of our new NHS members!
Honoring Our Seniors — Girls Volleyball & Boys Water Polo
We also celebrated Senior Night for our Girls Volleyball and Boys Water Polo teams! These evenings are always bittersweet as we recognize the dedication, hard work, and countless hours our seniors have given to their teams and our school. Thank you to our senior athletes for representing Sonora with pride, and to the families and coaches who have supported them along the way. Once a Raider, always a Raider!
Our Song Team Takes the Field at SoFi Stadium!
Last Sunday, our incredible Song Team performed at SoFi Stadium during a Los Angeles Chargers game! What an unforgettable experience for our students to showcase their talent on such a big stage. We are so proud of these young ladies and their coaches for representing Sonora High School. What an amazing memory!
Congratulations, Josh Baxter — Rotary Top All-Around Student!
We are thrilled to celebrate Sonora senior Josh Baxter, who was recognized as Rotary's Top All-Around Student! Josh truly represents what it means to be a Raider. From his academic excellence and participation in cross country and track to his leadership in ASB and Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Josh does it all!
But what makes Josh especially deserving of this recognition is his character. His teachers describe him as someone who genuinely cares about others, encourages his peers, and brings out the best in everyone around him. Congratulations, Josh! We are so proud of you!
Raider Football Keeps Rolling!
Our Raiders brought home another victory Thursday night, defeating Calvary Chapel 34–12! Congratulations to our players and coaches on another great team effort. It has been so much fun watching this team compete, grow, and represent Sonora with pride. Keep it going, Raiders!
Celebrating Raider Leadership at the District Level!
Congratulations to our amazing Activities Director, Kelly Virden, and Jayden Aguirre, our FJUHSD Vice Chair, who were recognized at this week's Board meeting for their outstanding contributions to the success of the FJUHSD ASB Symposium and Student Board Member Summit!
Both Ms. Virden and Jayden shared their time, talents, and leadership to help make these events meaningful experiences for student leaders across our district. We are so proud of the work they do to elevate student voice, create leadership opportunities, and bring students together.
Thank you, Ms. Virden and Jayden, for representing Sonora so well and for reminding us that Raider leadership extends far beyond our campus!
Making the Most of Every Space — Thank You, Raiders!
Finally, I want to recognize something that may not always make the headlines but deserves just as much celebration.
As construction continues across our campus, many of our teachers and students have been learning and teaching in temporary classroom spaces. I know these changes haven't always been easy, and I sincerely thank everyone for their patience, flexibility, and positive attitudes. But what has impressed me most is that our teachers and students aren't just making do. They are making the most of it!
I have seen teachers turn temporary spaces into welcoming classrooms, find creative ways to engage students, and continue providing meaningful learning experiences despite the challenges. Our students have stepped up, adjusted, and kept working hard.
Buildings and classrooms matter, but the people inside them make the difference. Our students continue to learn and thrive because of our amazing teachers, and I could not be more grateful for their dedication.
Thank you to our entire Raider family for continuing to show what makes Sonora such a special place.
As we head into another week, I hope you take a moment to celebrate all the wonderful things happening on our campus. There is so much to be proud of, and even more to look forward to!
Who's got it better than us? NOBODY!
Go Raiders!
