Dear Raider Families,

What another wonderful week to be a Raider! As we move further into October, there is so much to celebrate at Sonora High School. From recognizing our students' academic achievements and cultural traditions to an exciting Friday night football victory, our Raiders continue to make us proud!

I also want to thank our entire Raider community for your patience and flexibility as we continue navigating construction on our campus. I know construction isn't always convenient (and neither are the detours!), but I truly appreciate how our students, staff, and families have continued to make the best of it. We are excited about the improvements happening around campus and look forward to seeing everything come together!

As we settle into October, I am especially looking forward to all the fun and festivities that fall brings to Sonora. This time of year feels special, and I love seeing our campus filled with school spirit, celebrations, and opportunities for our Raider family to come together.

Celebrating Our Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica Students!

On Thursday evening, we had the wonderful opportunity to celebrate our students at the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (Spanish Honor Society) Induction Ceremony. It was a special evening recognizing students for their academic achievement, dedication to learning Spanish, and appreciation for Hispanic language and culture.

I am especially excited to share that Melissa Villa was selected as a recipient of the prestigious Premio de Honor! What an incredible accomplishment!

Melissa was selected through a competitive nomination process in which six of our seniors submitted 600-word essays reflecting on a cultural tradition that helped shape their identity. Students explored how their traditions shaped who they are today and whether those influences were positive, negative, or a mix of both.

Melissa's essay about Las Posadas stood out for its thoughtful reflection and personal connection to this meaningful tradition. She beautifully explained how the celebration has influenced her life and why it holds such special significance for her. After reviewing the essays, our Spanish teachers, French teacher, and student officers selected Melissa's submission to represent Sonora.

We are incredibly proud that Melissa received this recognition! Congratulations, Melissa, and thank you to our amazing World Language teachers and Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica student leaders for celebrating our students' cultures, identities, and accomplishments.

Raider Football — What a Finish!

If you were at Friday night's football game against Westminster, you know it was one to remember!

Our Raiders battled until the end and secured an exciting victory with a field goal in the final minute! Talk about keeping us on the edge of our seats!

What impressed me most wasn't just the win, but the resilience, determination, and teamwork our players demonstrated. They kept believing in one another, stayed focused, and found a way to finish strong.

Congratulations to our players and coaches! Thank you also to our cheerleaders, students, families, and everyone who came out to support our Raiders. Friday nights are pretty special at Sonora!

Fall Athletics — Come Cheer On Our Raiders!

Our fall athletic teams have been playing their hearts out, and I couldn't be prouder of their effort, determination, and sportsmanship! Whether on the field, court, golf course, or in the pool, our student-athletes are representing Sonora with tremendous Raider pride.

I encourage our families and community members to come out and support our amazing Raiders! There is nothing better than seeing our stands filled with students, families, and staff cheering on our teams.

Be sure to check out our weekly Mark Your Calendar flyer for upcoming games, matches, and school events. We have another exciting week ahead, including Flag Football Senior Night on Wednesday, October 14, and plenty of opportunities to see our Raiders in action!

Looking Ahead — Fall Fun and Raider Pride!

We have a busy, exciting week ahead, full of opportunities to celebrate our students and connect as a school community. In addition to our athletic events, we look forward to celebrating our students at the National Honor Society Induction Ceremony on Wednesday, October 14.

Thank you for being such an important part of our Raider family. I remain grateful for our students, staff, and families who make Sonora such a wonderful place to learn, grow, and thrive.

Wishing everyone a fantastic week ahead!

Who's got it better than us? NOBODY!
