Dear Raider Families,

Sonora High School is proud to be home to exceptional teachers who go above and beyond for their students every single day. One shining example of that excellence is Kelly Virden.

Kelly has been recognized as Sonora High School’s Teacher of the Year, FJUHSD Teacher of the Year, and—most recently—named a Top Teacher in Orange County by OC Parenting Magazine.

These honors reflect Kelly’s dedication, passion, and the incredible impact she makes in the lives of her students and colleagues. She represents the very best of what it means to be a Sonora Raider.

Congratulations, Kelly! And thank you to all of the outstanding teachers at Sonora High School who go the extra mile every day to make Sonora a truly special place for our students, families, and community.

La Habra's 37th Annual Student Government Day

Thank you to the City of La Habra for hosting this valuable opportunity for our students.

This year, Sonora High School seniors Duke Tanabe, Olivia Collins, Arianna Nunez, and Leo Atari participated in the City of La Habra’s 37th Annual Student Government Day, where students took part in a hands-on simulation serving as members of City Government and City Staff.

As part of the experience, students explored a policy proposal examining whether the City of La Habra should adopt AI regulations for city employees, engaging in thoughtful discussion and decision-making about an important and timely topic.

Our students represented Sonora High School with professionalism, insight, and leadership.

  • Duke Tanabe served as Mayor Pro Tem
  • Olivia Collins served as Assistant City Manager
  • Arianna Nunez served as City Clerk
  • Leo Atari served as Police Chief

We are proud of these students for representing Sonora so well and for engaging in this meaningful civic learning experience.

Wrestling:

Congratulations to sophomore Greg Ruiz for representing Sonora at the CIF State Wrestling Championships in Bakersfield last week. Greg competed against some of the best wrestlers in the state and finished 2–2 with two pins—an impressive showing on the state stage.

We also celebrated our Girls Wrestling program, which was recognized on Monday by the La Habra City Council and Mayor José Medrano for their hard work and dedication. A proud moment for Raider wrestling!

Boys Volleyball:

Our boys volleyball team is on fire after winning the IE Classic Tournament last weekend and then sweeping Mayfair High School Monsoons and Troy High School Warriors this week. Orion Stephens was named MVP of the tournament and is our Athlete of the Week—congrats, Orion!

The team is now 10–1 and opens league play next week against Esperanza High School Aztecs. Go Raiders!

Swim:

Our boys and girls swim teams competed against Fullerton High School Indians this week. The girls' team dominated the meet, while the boys' team came up just short in a close race.

Both teams are back in action next week against La Serna High School Lancers.

Stunt:

Our Stunt team earned their first win of the season, defeating Costa Mesa High School Mustangs 20–8. With the victory, they advance in the Royal Rumble Hope University Stunt Tournament this weekend.

Congratulations to our Stunt team—keep it going!

Boys Golf:

Our Raiders earned their first win of the season, edging Pacifica High School Mariners 205–206 for their first league victory. The team is now 1–3 on the season. Great job, boys!

Boys Tennis:

Our boys' team fell to Buena Park High School Coyotes and Villa Park High School Spartans this week. They’ll get another chance next week when they face both teams again and look to show their improvement.

Baseball:

Our Raiders had a wild week of comebacks. First, they rallied to defeat California High School Condors 6–3 in 9 innings. Then, after a leadoff double by Robby Blaine, the Raiders edged University High School Trojans 4–3 on a walk-off hit by Ryan Lietzau.

The Raiders are now 4–1 on the season.

Softball:

Our Lady Raiders continue to improve each week, showing great grit and competitiveness. They battled back from an 8–0 deficit against La Serna High School Lancers, nearly completing the comeback before falling 14–13.

They bounced back in a big way at Troy High School Warriors, dominating 19–2 with outstanding pitching and defense. The Raiders now hold a 3–4 overall record and continue to build momentum.
