Raider Report - Building Leaders and Making Connections

Dear Raider Families:

Last Friday was an inspiring and unforgettable day for Sonora High School as our ASB leadership students joined forces with student leaders from all seven schools across the district at Troy High School for the annual Leadership Symposium. This powerful event gave our students the chance to connect with peers from other campuses, share new perspectives on leadership, and learn innovative ways to engage every student in meaningful school life. Together, they explored strategies to strengthen school spirit, build inclusive communities, and create environments where every student feels valued.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Troy High School’s leadership and community for opening their doors and hosting such a welcoming and dynamic event. Their hospitality and support provided the perfect environment for our students and staff to collaborate and grow together.

One of the most impactful moments of the day came during a reflective exercise on the “peaks and valleys” of the school year. Students opened up about both the triumphs and challenges they’ve experienced, finding common ground and encouragement from their peers. This conversation also served as an important foreshadowing of future planning, giving student leaders and principals the insight to anticipate times when energy may wane and to design events, programs, and initiatives that keep engagement strong all year long. By looking ahead, they are better equipped to maintain enthusiasm, inclusion, and support for all students across the district.

A very special shout-out goes to Arianna Machado (Sonora High School) and Audrina Gomez (FUHS student) for their vision, leadership, and execution of this incredible event. Their hard work, creativity, and dedication helped make the Leadership Symposium a transformative experience for everyone involved. We are so proud of our ASB students for representing Sonora with energy, compassion, and vision, and we can’t wait to see the positive impact they will bring back to our campus.

We are thrilled to celebrate Jessica Esquer-Santana, who last week was honored by the CIF Southern Section as a Champion for Character at their annual dinner, recognizing students and staff who make extraordinary contributions to their campuses while serving as a positive light to others. As a dedicated member of the media, Jessica has become the preeminent sports journalist on our campus — roaming the sidelines, taking stats, and capturing those all-important post-game interviews. What makes her achievement even more remarkable is that she has built this platform entirely on her own, with no additional resources or supporting team, covering countless events with professionalism and passion. Her drive and commitment to athletics and “getting the scoop” speak to her relentless determination, even while overcoming personal challenges. Jessica is not only the first member of the Sonora family ever to receive this prestigious award, but she is also a trailblazer whose experience will undoubtedly springboard her into a promising career in sports media. We could not be more proud of her accomplishments and the positive impact she continues to make on our school and community.

We are proud to share that the Sonora High School JROTC had the distinguished honor of carrying the Colors during the La Habra “State of the City” Breakfast, hosted by the Mayor of La Habra. This prestigious event brought together City Council members, city officials, the La Habra Police Department, LA County Fire, and numerous state and local government representatives, including leaders from all of the local school districts. Having our cadets represent Sonora at such an important civic gathering underscores the respect and recognition they’ve earned through their dedication and discipline. We couldn’t be more proud of our students for creating a lasting and meaningful presence in our community—one that reflects the values of leadership, service, and pride in our school.

We are proud to congratulate the Sonora High School National Honor Society on receiving the prestigious Excellence in Service Award from the National Association of Secondary School Principals. This honor is a testament to the countless hours our NHS members have devoted to meaningful community service projects and their unwavering commitment to helping others. From organizing events that benefit local causes to providing support for those in need, their efforts embody the true spirit of leadership, service, and scholarship. The dedication and compassion they demonstrate not only enrich our school community but also create a lasting positive impact beyond our campus. We are truly inspired by their hard work and proud to celebrate their remarkable achievement.

Boys Water Polo

The Raiders Boys Water Polo team had an outstanding week, earning two big victories — defeating Cypress 13–9 and edging out Montebello 10–9. Coach Jay’s leadership and inspiration propelled the Raiders to their first league win against Cypress, setting the tone for a promising season ahead.

Girls Volleyball

Our Girls Volleyball team fought hard in tough matchups against Canyon and Yorba Linda, showing grit and determination despite falling short. This week, we’re proud to spotlight our incredible seniors — Molly Luhm, Jayleen Lempart, and Arianna Machado — for their leadership, dedication, and impact on the court.

Girls Flag Football

The Girls Flag Football team faced adversity at Crean Lutheran, trailing 20–0 at halftime. They rallied with determination in the second half, putting up 12 unanswered points and nearly tying the game before falling just short. Later in the week, they hosted Cypress at home and continued to battle hard, despite a 24–6 loss.

Girls Golf

Our Lady Raiders faced a tough challenge against a talented Foothill team, coming up short in their match. They’re eager to bounce back and will take on El Modena this week, ready to showcase their skill and determination.

Boys and Girls Cross Country

The Raiders Boys and Girls Cross Country teams are gearing up for an exciting race at La Habra on Tuesday, where they’ll compete for city bragging rights and the chance to bring home the title.

Football

The Raiders Football team enjoyed a bye week to rest, regroup, and prepare. They’re ready to hit the field under the lights this Friday night as they take on Troy.

Page 4 MUST BE COMPLETED (MEDICAL CLEARANCE STATUS MARKED AND EMERGENCY CONTACTS FILLED OUT), SIGNED, STAMPED & DATED BY A PHYSICIAN.

Only the signature from an MD, DO, or PA will be accepted. Signatures from Chiropractors and Nurse Practitioners are NOT accepted.

Page 4 of the Physical Form must then be uploaded to Home Campus.
There is no form under the signed Confirmation Page. Please skip that and go back to upload the form at the end of the process.

3) Once you have completed the signatures and uploaded the physical form on Home Campus, Print out the Confirmation Page from homecampus.com/login

Print & Complete (Both parent & student signatures are required).
Please be advised that each sport/activity must be listed at the top of the page in order to be cleared for that sport during the 2023-24 school year.
Go back into Home Campus and upload the Confirmation Page into the Signed Confirmation Page Form

You are not cleared until you receive a clearance email from Home Campus. Our Admin team must review all submissions prior to your student-athlete receiving clearance. You may follow the status of your clearance on the Home Campus website.
