Dear Raider Families:
This week, we celebrate two extraordinary young women who are making their mark in athletics and embodying the very best of Sonora High School’s spirit, perseverance, and pursuit of excellence. Their accomplishments remind us what is possible when talent meets hard work, and when passion is matched with the relentless drive to improve and compete at the highest level.
Freshman golf sensation Tanya Li has already made history in her first season representing Sonora. Competing with composure, focus, and incredible skill, Tanya captured Sonora’s first-ever individual Girls Golf League Championship, an achievement that will be remembered for years to come. She didn’t just win—she dominated the field, finishing an astounding 15 strokes ahead of her nearest competitor. Tanya’s success is a testament to her dedication to her craft and her calm, determined approach to the game. As just a freshman, she has set a new standard for excellence and opened the door for future generations of golfers at Sonora to believe that anything is possible. Her historic performance has filled our community with pride, and we can’t wait to see what she accomplishes next as she continues to grow and compete.
Meanwhile, across the world, junior Stella Barajas is making an international impact as she proudly represents the Mexican National Team at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco. Stella has been an integral part of her team’s success, helping Mexico advance out of pool play and into the Round of 16 against Paraguay on Wednesday. Her journey is one that speaks to years of hard work, discipline, and love for the game of soccer. And her story continues to get better—Stella recently committed to the University of Kentucky, where she has earned a full-ride scholarship to continue her athletic and academic career as a Wildcat in the 2027–2028 school year.
Both Tanya and Stella represent the heart of what it means to be a Raider—students who dedicate themselves fully to their passions, who put in the hours when no one is watching, and who carry themselves with integrity, humility, and pride. Their accomplishments are not only personal triumphs but also reflections of the strength of our programs, the support of our coaches and families, and the spirit of the Sonora community.
We are beyond proud of these two remarkable young women for their achievements and their commitment to excellence. As they continue to shine—on the course, on the field, and on the world stage—we will be cheering them on from the sidelines, inspired by their journey and excited for all that lies ahead.

Sonora struck first and held a 10–7 lead at halftime, showcasing determination and teamwork throughout the game. Despite several strong opportunities in the second half, the Raiders came up just short, falling 14–10 in a hard-fought contest.
