Honoring Our Employees of the Year: Teresa Zambrano & Nick Barron

At Sonora High School, we are fortunate to have incredible staff members whose dedication and commitment to our students, families, and community make a lasting impact. This week, we are proud to recognize our Classified Employee of the Year, Mrs Teresa Zambrano, and our Certificated Employee of the Year, Mr. Nick Barron—two outstanding individuals who embody the heart of Sonora.

Teresa Zambrano – A Pillar of the Sonora Community

For over 27 years, Teresa Zambrano has been an integral part of Sonora High School and the Fullerton Joint Union High School District. Her dedication, warmth, and tireless efforts have touched the lives of countless students, staff, and families. Teresa is more than just a staff member—she is the friendly face that greets students each day, the helping hand that supports our school community, and the guiding presence that ensures things run smoothly behind the scenes. Her impact extends far beyond her daily responsibilities; she is a source of encouragement, a problem solver, and a valued mentor to many. Sonora High School would not be the same without her unwavering commitment, and we are so grateful for all she does.

Mr. Nick Barron – Champion for Our Students in the FACE Program

Mr. Nick Barron’s leadership within our FACE program has been transformative for some of our most vulnerable students. His passion for empowering students with special needs goes beyond the classroom—he creates meaningful opportunities for them to develop leadership skills, build confidence, and gain real-world experience that will propel them into their futures. Through his dedication, Mr. Barron fosters an inclusive environment where students and staff come together, learning from one another and celebrating each individual's unique strengths. His work ensures that every student feels valued and prepared for success beyond high school. Sonora is stronger because of his vision, compassion, and relentless dedication to our students.

As we celebrate these two remarkable individuals, we are reminded that Sonora High School is not just a school—it is a community built on dedication, service, and heart. Please join us in congratulating Teresa Zambrano and Nick Barron for their well-deserved recognition!

Have a great week!

Student safety is a top priority in the Fullerton Joint Union High School District. The second week of February FJUHSD will be holding a surprise Shelter in Place drill. The purpose of this drill is to help students and staff practice transitioning in the event of a real emergency.

A Shelter in Place occurs when there is a potential risk near our campus. Students will go indoors to the nearest classroom space and doors will be closed and locked. A Shelter in Place allows us to be prepared should risk elevate. More information can be found here.

The drill should last roughly five minutes. The day of the drill we will be sending out additional information to parents letting you know when the drill will begin as well as when the drill concludes.

Please feel free to contact us should you have any questions.

Girls Soccer:

Girls soccer finished the North Hills League season last week as they traveled to Sunny Hills. Finishing the game to a 1-1 draw, our ladies secured a piece of the League Championship. This is the first league championship for our girls program since 1999! We will find out if our league championship is ours alone after the match on Tuesday between Sunny Hills and Brea Olinda. A Sunny Hills loss or draw will result in a solo league championship for the Raiders. Congrats to Coach Cory Witt and our amazing team!

Girls Basketball:

Girls basketball showed incredible resilience, battling back from an 18-0 first-quarter deficit despite challenging conditions with no scoreboard and no shot clock. Led by Kailani Kuwae’s impressive three-point shooting, the Lady Raiders pulled within three points in the fourth quarter before ultimately falling just short in a hard-fought 50-41 loss.

Boys Basketball:

Boys basketball pulled off a thrilling overtime victory over Villa Park in a game to remember! The Raiders erased a 16-point deficit in the third quarter, exploding for 32 points in the fourth to force OT. Jayden Barnes, Tyler Holmquist, and Landon Templeton led the way, combining for an incredible 76 of the team’s 80 points. What a comeback!

Boys Soccer:

Boys soccer clinched a playoff spot with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over El Modena! Alexsay Nazaroff scored the game’s only goal with an incredible header in the first 10 minutes, and the Raiders held strong against a late push from the Vanguards to secure the win.

Wrestling:

Boys wrestling has qualified for the CIF-SS Division 3 playoffs, earning the #2 ranking in the division! The Raiders are set to face the winner of Quartz Hill vs. Murrieta Valley as they look to make a deep postseason run. Good luck, Raiders!

Cheer:

Song is currently in Florida competing in Nationals. They have competed well and as of this publication, they are competing in the Finals for both Pom and Hip Hop. We are so proud of you and bring home the hardware!
