Dear Sonora Community,

This week’s Board of Trustees meeting was a powerful reminder of the incredible people who make Sonora High School such a special place. We are proud to share that several members of our Raider community were recognized for their outstanding achievements and contributions—each of them representing the heart, dedication, and promise of our school.

Mr. Nick Barron, our Certificated Teacher of the Year, was honored for his unwavering commitment to student growth and success. Whether in the classroom, at school events, or supporting his colleagues, Mr. Barron brings passion, energy, and professionalism that elevate everyone around him. His impact is felt deeply by students and staff alike, and we are grateful to have him as part of our Raider family.

We also celebrated Teresa Zambrano, who was named both Classified Employee of the Year and the District Employee of the Year! With more than 27 years of service to Sonora, Teresa is the heartbeat of our front office and a trusted, friendly face for every student, staff member, and parent who walks through our doors. Her recognition is so well-deserved, and we couldn’t be more proud.

In a special moment during the meeting, we welcomed Arianna Machado, our new Student Board Member. Arianna will represent the student voice at the district level, and we know she will bring wisdom, empathy, and strength to the role. Her leadership is already inspiring, and we’re excited to see how she continues to make a difference.

We are also thrilled to celebrate three outstanding young women who were awarded the prestigious Fullerton Secondary Teachers Organization (FSTO) Scholarship for their aspirations to pursue careers in education: Alina Santana, Aryana Garcia Prado, and Kaitlynn Eppard. These future educators have already shown the dedication, compassion, and drive it takes to inspire the next generation. Their recognition is a testament to their hard work and the incredible support of the Sonora community that has helped nurture their dreams.

We are so proud of all of these Raiders—past, present, and future—who embody the very best of Sonora High School.

As we approach the final stretch of the school year, excitement is building across campus. The end of the year brings with it a host of opportunities to celebrate our incredible Class of 2025. From awards nights and performances to senior activities and graduation, this is a time to reflect on all that our students have accomplished and to look ahead to the bright futures they are creating. Let’s make these final weeks meaningful, memorable, and filled with Raider pride!

Go Raiders!

Baseball:

The Raiders hit the road and came away with a hard-fought first-round playoff victory over a tough Linfield Christian squad! Emotions ran high all game, but Sonora stayed locked in, executing as a team behind a gritty performance on the mound from junior Robbie Blaine. 💪🔥

We’re on to Round 2! 🟡🔵

📍 HOME vs. South Torrance

🕒 Friday @ 3:15 PM

Let’s pack the stands and bring the energy!

Softball

Our ladies were at home for the first round of the CIF playoffs as they dominated a familiar foe, Villa Park, taking them down 8-1. It was a decisive performance from the entire team as they jumped all over the starting pitcher by putting up 7 runs early and never looked back.

Yesterday, the team went on the road and faced a very tough JSerra team. After falling behind 2-0 early, the Raiders bounced back with high energy behind a bomb over the center field fence by Senior, Brooke Piwowar. The team was also settled behind starting pitcher, Bayle Hunnicutt, who went the distance and carried us into extra innings, but eventually fell 4-3. It was a great performance from our ladies in a strong Division 2 match-up that could have gone either way. Great job, ladies...we are proud of you!
