Dear Raider Families:

This week, our campus was filled with an energy and excitement that perfectly captured the heart of Sonora High School. On Thursday, January 8th, we proudly welcomed future Raiders and their families to campus for Open House, and it was truly an unforgettable evening. Our hallways were alive with conversation, curiosity, and anticipation as families met students, connected with staff, and learned about the many programs they will soon be a part of. For many students, this night marked the very beginning of their four-year journey with us, and the relationships built will extend far beyond a single evening.

The celebration of Sonora began as we showcased the incredible talents of our students through a series of outstanding performances. Cheer, dance production, and drill teams brought the crowd to life, filling the space with school spirit and pride. Their performances reflected the dedication, creativity, and excellence that define our campus and left our guests inspired and energized about what it means to be a Raider.

Above all, we are deeply thankful for our student leaders who hosted the evening and ensured every family felt welcomed and supported. Their confidence, kindness, and genuine love for Sonora were on full display as they shared their experiences and guided our visitors throughout the night. They are living examples of the culture we strive to build and a powerful reminder of why Sonora is the world’s greatest high school. Thursday night was not just an Open House, but a celebration of connection, community, and an incredibly bright future ahead.

Have a great week!

Principal, Sonora High School

This past weekend, our community came together in a powerful way at Fullerton High School for the Kick Cancer Event, a night dedicated to unity, hope, and cancer awareness. Partnering with the KM Legacy Foundation, the event brought schools, families, and supporters together with a shared purpose of raising funds for cancer research and honoring those impacted by the disease. The energy in the stands and on the field reflected the strength of a community standing together for something bigger than the game. A huge thank you goes out to Sonora ASB and our student leaders who showed up on Saturday evening to support the girls soccer team and stand behind such an important cause. Their presence and leadership helped make the night meaningful and memorable, reminding us that when we come together as one community, we can truly make a difference.

Girls Water Polo:

Our ladies competed hard against Troy this week, showing great effort despite a 14–9 loss. They currently stand at 7–11 overall and are ready to open league play at home against Pacifica next Wednesday, the 14th, at 4:00 PM. We look forward to a strong start to league action!

Boys Basketball:

Our boys opened league play in impressive fashion, going 2–0 with strong wins over Villa Park and Yorba Linda. They currently hold a 16–6 overall record and are 2–1 in league play after a hard-fought 69–60 road loss to El Dorado. The Raiders are led by Junior Jayden Barnes, Senior Tyler Holmquist, and Freshman Kyle Baek, who continue to set the tone for the team’s success.

Girls Basketball:

Our Lady Raiders hosted Yorba Linda and showed tremendous resilience, overcoming injuries to earn a big win over the Mustangs. Despite being without two starters, the Raiders followed it up with an impressive road victory at Brea on Friday night in a key league matchup, highlighting their depth and determination.

Wrestling:

Our Varsity Boys and Girls Wrestling teams hosted Foothill this week and delivered outstanding performances in their dual match. The boys secured an exciting 41–39 victory, capped off by a clutch final-match win from the one and only Tommy Boy Banuelos. The Girls Varsity team was dominant throughout, earning an impressive 65–12 win over Foothill. Both teams now turn their focus to a huge league matchup at El Modena next Wednesday, the 14th.

Girls Soccer:

Our Lady Raiders earned a big league road victory at Esperanza, winning 3–1, and followed it up with a strong comeback effort to secure a tie against Crean Lutheran on Thursday. The girls now stand at an impressive 9–4–4 overall and 1–0–2 in league play, as they dropped a tough match on Saturday night for the Kick Cancer Event at Fullerton Union High School.

Boys Soccer:

Our Boys Soccer team earned a huge road win at La Habra on Wednesday night, defeating the Highlanders 4–2 to remain undefeated in league play. The team now holds a strong 7–4 overall record. On Friday, the Raiders celebrated Senior Night in style with a 2–0 victory over Esperanza.
