SmartScanNG 2 Wayside Defect Detector Is Loaded With Even More Advanced Features
This month's issue highlights hardware improvements incorporated into the SmartScanNG 2 . If you missed last months issue that highlighted software improvements in the SmartScanNG 2 click here to access it.

 Advanced Hardware Feature:

Type III scanners take advantage of the SmartScanNG 2 capabilities and help reduce maintenance at the site. These scanners have been shipping since 2011, and there are more than 3000 in service today.

 Advanced Hardware Feature:

The SmartScanNG 2 has built-in interface circuity to process the raw analog output of a Frauscher Zero- Speed Wheel Sensor, thus eliminating the need for an external Frauscher Wheel Signal Converter module.

Advanced Hardware Feature:

The new 2300-601 chassis brings multiple improvements. The 2300-601 chassis is now easier to install and maintain than the previous 2300-501 chassis.

Advanced Hardware Feature:

All SmartScanNG 2 hardware is now rack mountable in a standard EIA 19-inch rack. STC has developed rack mounting hardware for all detector-related bungalow components, including a battery shelf for securing the system batteries.
Battery Shelf helps secure batteries

 Advanced Hardware Feature:

A separate surge panel with a dedicated ground connection keeps transient voltages out of the processor panel. Transtector surge protectors prevents transient electrical surges that are generated in the railroad environment from damaging equipment. Suppression status LED's provide a quick visual indication of the status of the surge protector.

 Advanced Hardware Feature:
Dual-Microprocessor Architecture

We designed the NG² Controller Module utilizing dual-microprocessor architecture; one processor is dedicated to train-scanning functions while the other simultaneously handles data storage and communications. This synergy of processing power results in highly accurate train data.
