Ray has been busy spending time with his family and enjoying the holiday this past weekend. So here is one of my favorite old story's of Ray's: - Lauren
Dream Big By Ray Shay
When I saw this sign to the right on display at the World Market in 4S Ranch, I knew I had to buy it. I didn't even look at the price tag. I simply grabbed it and walked up to the register. I figured I would just wing it when Theresa asked me how much it cost.

I then drove straight home and hung it on the wall facing the landing of our stairwell so our three boys, Troy, Raymond and Ryan would all have to walk by this sign every single day and every single night. I believe we are all products of our environment, and I felt this had some solid information we could all use.
If you didn't guess, I really like the sign. I particularly love the first and the last lines that mention, "No Whining" and "Dream Big." I like to believe these two sayings are in my wheelhouse, but I may be wrong.
In my humble opinion, I feel there is too much whining going on in America. The people who really have the right to complain for the crappy cards they were dealt in life, are frequently the quiet ones. Those amazing people who take the hard knocks on the chin and stay after it. God love 'em.
Tell me how I can help those people more, and I am all in. As for most of the whiners, save it. Go whine somewhere else.
It was the first line on the sign that got our nine year-old son, Ryan, into trouble this past week. Yes, we know he broke his ankle playing soccer, and yes, he is on crutches and he can't play soccer right now, but Theresa and I got so sick and tired of hearing him whining, "I'm so bored." That is when Theresa had a stroke of genius. I think she must have been looking at the sign, too.
She explained to Ryan, "Okay, Mr. Broken Ankle " who just wants to sit around and play video games, why don't you practice singing? Your vocal chords are tip top. Heck, you could even sing our national anthem at the start of our Our Fourth Annual Thank You Run."
I'm not sure how she convinced him, but Ryan ultimately agreed.

Criminals Slash Tires and Set Fires in Del Sur Community!

Hey. Boss,
Hope your readers enjoyed turkey day. Unfortunately, it seems some Grinches tried to ruin some Del Sur homeowners holiday on the night of Thanksgiving. It explains why there were more police cars circling the neighborhood the next morning, than a half price sale at a donut shop!
Speaking of donuts, my Jersey connection swears Theresa's first job was working at a Parsippany, New Jersey Dunkin Donuts. I guess it help explains your connection. Just kidding boss, back to Del Sur.
Da word on da street is some nefarious characters slashed the tires on about a dozen vehicles the night of Thanksgiving. I guess that was not enough for these rocket scientists. It seems they then reportedly tried to set small fires in the ladies bathroom in the park. BTW boss, there is no such thing as a small fire.

What's up with you humans? I still don't get why someone would do that? A crime this big are felonies and can send these scoundrels to the Big House, (State Prison).
I got our moles reviewing cell phone traffic and satellite imagery from last Thursday night. Someone must have seen these criminals in the area or heard someone talking about it.
The crimes occurred mostly around Parkside Crescent, but the criminals were likely driving or walking around the Del Sur community for awhile.
I know the SDPD and SDFD Fire Investigators can catch them, if we all help. Call SDPD if you saw anyone suspicious or stay completely anonymous by contacting Crimestoppers. You can get tax free moola, d inero, greenbacks! Someone in the community knows who did it. The person who drops da dime can earn big money!
This is how crinestoppers work (click here). Call, text, or email the persons names, nickname, anything on who did da crime. Call 1-888-580-8477, text 274637, or send tips anonymously via the web at www.tipsubmit.com. Da crimestoppers never ask your name and they NEVER record your voice. They give you a tip ID# only. When the perps are located from your information they find a way to pay you all cash! Cash is king as da say!
Boss, sometimes the crimestopper people will hide the cash in an envelope and place it at a prearranged location. The confidential tipster just picks it up. It could be hidden under a trash can in one of the Del Sur's amazing and beautiful parks. Now boss, that would be justice! Those criminals who did this should, go to jail and not pass go!
For more information on Crime Stoppers visit their website: sdcrimestoppers.org.
Take care boss, I'm out!

Business Spotlight: New AT&T Store in 4S Ranch!
4S Ranch has a new AT&T Store in 4S Commons Town Center and Wednesday November 26th was their opening day! The new store is an authorized retailer for AT&T. According to the manager Michael Condon, they were pretty busy. Some people tried to get into the store before they even opened the doors.
One of the promotions the employees told me about is if you come into the store soon, you get a free tablet! But this is only while supplies last so get into the new AT&T Store in 4S Ranch Commons Town Center!

Counting Calories Isn't Always Effective!
To reach a comfortable weight, counting calories may not be the most effective plan of action. Instead, focus on eating whole, real and nutrient dense foods that are found in nature. By turning away from processed and packaged foods and eating the foods that nature intended, we can add years to our life. Remember, not all calories are created equal. Chose the ones that are rich in macro and micro ingredients. You will feel satiated longer, have more energy, and have a happy mind and body!

Light Fixtures
How big should an overhead light fixture be? Just add the length and width of the room in feet, and whatever number you come up with is, in inches, your guide for the fixture's diameter. So a 15-by-20-foot room would need a 35-inch-wide.

Cyclamen for the Holidays
 | Cyclamen |
With the Holidays upon us, it's time to talk Cyclamens. I like these cheerful red-flowered plants for both indoor and outdoor use. For outdoors, they will do well in sun and partial shade with moderate water. They may not last very long with extreme weather; either too hot or too cold. Treat them like an annual and place them where you want some color. I like to use the red ones in place of the typical poinsettia. Give them a try this holiday season.

Great Time to Buy a Home!
 | Ray Shay Broker/Owner Shay Realtors
_ |
It's a great time to buy a home! You think Cyber Monday or Black Friday are great times to buy? Well they can be. I will also tell you with so many people focusing on the holidays, it is a great time to get a deal on a home.

It is a combination of the historical low interest rates and increased home inventory. The first of the year brings out more buyers and the increased competition tends to make it more difficult to close the deal at a sweet price.
If you are interested in looking at what's out there be sure to give me a call. We have an amazing team of Buyer's Specialists.

The number of renters has swelled nationwide following the collapse of the housing bubble. Some renters face stiffer competition for vacancies and higher rents. All renters who take the time to study the quirks of their particular market will fare better.

4th Annual Thank You Run - Kids Run 2013
|
As I am typing this story, I can hear Ryan singing the national anthem in our home. I have to smile. There is something about his little boy voice belting out those timeless and iconic words about our country that sounds pretty amazing.
I don't think Ryan has any idea that six weeks from now, on Thanksgiving morning, there will be about 2,000 people watching him as he steps up into the open bed of Randy Koch's big, white pick up truck on Dove Creek Road (by the Boys & Girls Club) and starts singing our national anthem at the start of the 5k/10k.
 |
Ryan, with his older brother, Raymond "photo bombing." - 2013
|
I know in the fresh and cool morning air, I will be watching in silence as he begins to sing. Regardless of how well he performs, I will definitely be wearing at least one pair of sunglasses. The sight of his 52 pounds mustering up the guts to give it a go will be something that I will never forget. In years to come, when I am no longer around and Ryan is a grown man, he may look back and read what I wrote about him in my eWeekly gibberish in 2013. He will recall how a detour of a broken ankle resulted in his mom and I tricking him into dreaming big and biting off more than he could chew. A terrific quality in a young man. Ryan may then dig into an old, dust-covered box in the garage and drag the old sign out and hang it on the wall of his home and start telling his children, "hey, no whining, and yeah dream big kids, dream big!" Cheers,
