Happy New Year!

The CBSG Program is conducted throughout the United States and in several foreign countries. Depending on which part of the world you live in, some of you may be very familiar with snow, while others may experience snowfalls very little, if at all. Regardless, we can all appreciate the beauty of a fresh blanket of snow and how it seems to cover some of the bleakness of January.

Whether we have seen a snowflake up-close and personal or not, science explains that each one has its own unique look and characteristics. Snowflakes are like us and the children and youth we serve, each one is special. As human beings we have similarities, but still, we are each unique. Even studies of identical twins have shown they possess different personalities despite looking exactly alike.

We hope you enjoy the attached Snowflake Activity with your group participants or in classrooms. Regardless of age, making snowflakes is a fun activity from which we can all learn how unique and special we all are!

Kids’ Connection, Youth Connection, and Kids’ Connection, Too (collectively known as the CBSG® Program) are unique, interactive, multi-cultural curriculum-based prevention interventions that teach high-risk children and youth ages4-17 a set of essential life skills: skills to help them learn how to cope with difficult family situations (which include Adverse Childhood Experiences), resist negative peer pressure, set and achieve goals, and refuse alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.

This training is designed to fully prepare schools, community-based organizations, churches, juvenile justice divisions, volunteers, and other youth service professionals to fully implement the CBSG® Program with fidelity. “I would say to any superintendent or principal, 'You need this curriculum because it's going to change the whole tenor of your school. It's going to move your children from a place of being scared and afraid to a place of power and sense of belonging. The guided implementation and practice of the program's tenants - I Am, I Can, I Have, I Will, I Believe - will transform your campus to a place no one will recognize.'”

Valorie Horn, Program Director, V.O.I.C.E. (Viable Options in Community Endeavors)
