SolarFi

I’d like to let you know about a new company that is working to use solar power to bring economic development and clean energy to African communities.

SolarFi is a “business in a box” that is positioned to empower women and youth to own a micro franchise. The CEO is a friend of mine and they’re conducting an Indiegogo campaign. I think you’d find it interesting.

Greetings!

Winter is on its way! I’m not quite ready… are you? In the last newsletter , we talked about coaching as a leadership strategy. We addressed listening and motivation, two critical skills, but didn’t really explain what coaching is. So we’ve addressed that in this issue. Next issue we’ll add a third key coaching skill: accountability.

I’ve also been doing more training on Emotional Intelligence and thought I’d share some of those ideas with you. In this issue is the first of a series of articles about it. Also, a friend of mine is embarking on a really innovative project and I’ve included a link about it. I think you’ll find it interesting!

Please let me know if you have any questions and feel free to comment on the blogs!

Coaching

Coaching is a powerful leadership strategy that builds employee competence and commitment. It’s the commitment that sets a coach apart from other leaders.

Wouldn’t it be great if all of your employees were happy to follow your lead? The key to that is that they believe you have their best interests at heart and that following you will pay off for them. Coaching can make that happen. Coaching is based on (and builds) trust and positive work relationships.

Emotional Intelligence 101

Understanding emotional intelligence can help us communicate more effectively in the workplace (and in life!). The term emerged from research by Daniel Goleman, who first coined the term “Emotional Intelligence”. He referred to this as EQ as opposed to IQ.

One of the first components of EQ is awareness of our own responses to events and people, and trying to understand how others might be interpreting our words and behavior.
