Raising Quality!  IMPACT Newsletter
March 2018
Welcome, Spring!
March 20 th ushers in Spring, a time of change, rebirth and growth. It is a time to re-energize one’s aspirations, hopes and dreams, to fulfill one’s purpose, mission and vision. Or in the Early Childhood world, it's a time for second collections of DRDPs, changing out your centers, and getting out that water table!

However you welcome Spring, take time to enjoy the beauty of this season!
Spring has returned. The Earth is like a child who knows poems by heart.

Provider Stories & Highlights
It's a bird . . . it's a plane . . . it's . . .?
Meet the superheroes at Harvest Preschool! From the left, teachers Jamie, Lexie, Nana, Christina (Director), and Renee. These ladies use their super powers to provide quality care for the toddlers and preschoolers at Harvest Preschool.

Director Christina Hine has always been committed to quality, engaging back in 2014 in Race to the Top and now in Raising Quality!. She is celebrating her recent rating, saying, " I was looking at our rating and the areas we need to grow in as well. We’re going to update these areas for quality and not just to meet a tier for a reward. This rating will guide me this year in the areas of training, budget, and celebrating our wins."

The Quality Awards offered through Raising Quality! help providers replenish supplies and equipment. Christina used their Quality Award to invest in their classrooms, equipping them with science activity items, a listening center, and organization systems for portfolios. Outside improvements included the purchase of an activity cart and a playhouse to take dramatic play outside.

You can also use your awards for tuition ( click here for Scholarship info) and coursework fees to get that degree you've been thinking about, or to stay current in your professional development!

Resources to Help Raise Quality!
As they say, “It takes a village.” There are many resources throughout San Joaquin County to help support, collaborate and encourage the work done by Raising Quality! Partners. In this edition, we highlight these resources:

Sesame Street in Communities: Here, you’ll find hundreds of bilingual multi-media tools to help kids and families enrich and expand their knowledge during the early years of birth through six, a critical window for brain development. These resources engage kids and adults in everyday moments and daily routines—from teaching early math and literacy concepts, to encouraging families to eat nutritious foods, to serious topics such as divorce and food insecurity.

Literacy Support: Check out what the San Joaquin Public Library has to offer!
Training Wheels
This early literacy vehicle travels to preschools and daycare centers throughout San Joaquin County. Each visit includes a special storytime where children ages 0-5 and their teachers and caregivers enjoy stories, songs and poetry. This program is funded largely by a California Library Literacy Services grant. To schedule a Training Wheels visit to your preschool or daycare, call (209) 937-8143.

edWebinars:   Professional learning that works with your schedule--explore the world of free edWebinars - live or on-demand. Earn a CE certificate for attending or viewing the recordings. Upcoming webinars include: Meaningful Field Trips with Young Children; Preschool Approaches to Learning with Music; or, Effective Discipline Policies for Young Children. More info: edweb.net .
