Meeting with Constituents
Town Halls

Thanks to everyone who attended our town halls over the weekend in Haywood, Jackson, and Swain! We had good attendance and great conversation about closing the coverage gap , broadband expansion , restoring food stamps, and many more issues facing our communities.

I anticipate hosting follow-up town halls after the three budget--the Governor's budget, the House's budget, and the Senate's budget--go into conference.
I kicked off a full day of town halls speaking to constituents in Haywood County.
From Haywood, I went over to Jackson County to host my second town hall of the day.
I finished the day by speaking with constituents in Swain County at the Mariana Black Library.
House Bill 69, Non-Partisan Redistricting

Last week I co-sponsored HB69, which will establish a non-partisan redistricting process . It is high time that we let the people choose their representation, not the other way around.
Cherokee schools

Last Friday, I toured the Cherokee School System . I now have met with principles, superintendents, teachers, and students from our public schools in Haywood, Jackson, and Swain over the past month. There are great people working in these schools, and I'm working in Raleigh to secure the funding that our children deserve .
I enjoyed meeting students learning basket weaving and other traditional crafts at Cherokee Middle.
Yona Wade and I visited rehearsals for "Aladdin," the current show by the Cherokee Middle Schoolers.
Looking Forward
Continuing my School Tours

I have meetings scheduled this Friday with Southwestern Community College and Western Carolina University. I'm working to meet with representatives from all of the public schools, community colleges, and universities serving my district. The meetings I've attended already have been very informative, and I'm looking forward to continuing to learn from those who work to make a brighter future for all our students.

Advocating to Advance the Minimum Wage

 I had a great meeting with representatives from the AFL-CIO in the legislature last week, and I joined them in support of a worker's bill of rights . A strong North Carolina depends on a strong work force earning a living wage. We agreed, it is past time to raise the minimum wage in North Carolina.
