CENTER HIGHLIGHTS
This semester we opened our Russia 101 Lecture Series with a film viewing of "I AM CUBA" by Russian Film Director Mikhail Kalatazov. The film c aptures the island just before it made the transition to a post-revolutionary society. Moving from city to country and back again, I AM CUBA examines the various problems caused by political oppression as well as by great discrepancies in wealth and power. The viewing was followed by a short discussion led by HU Russian Lecturer Dr. Brunhilda Lugo de Fabritz.
The HU Bison Abroad Office was excited to host a returnee mixer for the students who went abroad in the Fall of 2017. Over 20 students attended to share their stories from abroad and we announced the winners of the #studyabroadsoblack photo contest! Immediately following the mixer was our Bunche Brigade interest meeting. The Bunche Brigade is a group of student ambassadors dedicated to representing the Bunche Center across campus. If you're interested in learning more about the Bunche Brigade contact: michelle.morris@howard.edu.
CENTER SPOTLIGHT
Ms. Tonija Hope Navas has served as the Deputy Director of the Ralph J. Bunche International Affairs Center since 2015 and was recently appointed to the Directorship of the Center. Under her leadership the Bunche Center continues to expand its role as the hub for all HU global initiatives and activities. In addition to raising the percentage of students that study abroad by 30%, Ms. Navas has piloted the first HBCU Symposium on Study Abroad which was attended by 30 HBCUs here at Howard. She has also increased the number of MOUs with international universities, setting the stage for direct exchange partnerships for both students and faculty. The staff at the Bunche Center remain inspired by the culture of leadership and progress she has brought to the center and cannot wait to see what lies ahead.

Congratulations Director Navas from your Bunche Center Family.

REFLECTIONS FROM ABROAD
THE IN-BETWEEN: A PLAYLIST FOR YOUR ADJUSTMENT PHASE AND ALL ITS ADVENTURES

Written by Aiden Keys
AIFS, Spain
I have been in Granada for four weeks now, and I feel like I am riding a seesaw. I am having the time of my life in this playground of Spain, but like I am constantly lifting up and sinking down. I don't think that's a bad thing. I'm just adjusting.
