The Road to Bethlehem
 December 17th from 5:30-6:30pm
Tired of missing out on traditional events because of COVID 19? So are we! Because we can’t have our regular Christmas program this year, we ‘ve gotten creative in finding a new way to share the Christmas message of our newborn Savior.

This year we are going to host “The Road to Bethlehem” on Thursday, December 17th, from 5:30-6:30pm! This will be a live production by the kids in the lower parking lot that you will simply drive through! Feel free to invite grandparents and friends to share our Christmas message. Here’s the info you need to know:

  • Please watch for communication regarding costuming from your child’s teacher
  • Your child’s teacher will let you know what time your student should be dropped off
  • DROP OFF YOUR CHILD AT THE MAIN ENTRANCE UP ON TOP OF THE BUILDING. Do not go down behind the building where we do our normal drop off. (This will be blocked off.)
  • You are welcome to line up for our live presentation on the driveway heading down the hill at any time after you have dropped off your child. However, we will not start until 5:30pm.
  • From 5:30-6:30pm we will open our “Road to Bethlehem” in the lower parking lot.
  • Please return to school at 7pm to pick up your child. We will do dismissal in the lower lot just like after school. So, stay in your vehicles and we’ll send the kids out to you.

Thank you in advance for your help with costuming. Please note that this is a required event for all students.

DECEMBER 21-23rd

We are scheduled for full school days on Dec. 21 & 22, and a half day on the 23rd.  We are going to shift those days to asynchronous virtual learning days.  This means that while those days will count as school days, students will be working from home on their own.
Teachers will send home work ahead of time and be available for questions during a block of time on Monday and Tuesday for questions. However, they will not be doing any direct instruction. Your child is welcome to do the assigned work for those days at any time over Christmas break. It will be due when we return to school in January. The purpose of this change of venue is 2-fold: 1. It allows for additional time away from large groups as we continue battling COVID. 2. It lets our custodians do a mid-year carpet cleaning in the classroom that is much needed since we are eating in our rooms this year.

I apologize in advance for any inconveniences this causes. Please know that our Child Care will be open and available these days for any families that are in need. Contact Michelle Keller at 920/261-0242 to reserve a spot. Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Celebration Stories:

Thanks so much for those that have responded. If you have a great story about how God is working in your life right now. Please send it to me. Click Here
Earlier in the school year, I was called to the lower level to help clean up a child who had an accident. As I cleaned him up, we were talking about the “Wash Your Hands” posters on the walls of the bathroom. One in particular depicted cartoon like germs that looked scared at the sight of soap. The student I was helping was looking at that picture when we had the following conversation:

Him: Those are germs and we need to kill them when we wash our hands.
Me: Oh definitely! We don’t want germs to make us sick.
Him: Then the germs die with soap and go to heaven with God and Jesus. And then we will see them again when we die and go to heaven.
Me: …. (Long pause)… Um…. Hmmmm… Well, I guess that’s something to think about. We’ll just have to ask Jesus about that one when we get to heaven.
Him: Yep.

I don’t know if germs, dead or alive, will be in heaven one day, but I do know that this little guy has definitely heard the Good News about God’s love and plan of salvation for him.  And, I love the idea that God can work His plan amidst COVID in the oddest of circumstances, bathroom posters.

God DOES answer your prayers! We have been praying for guidance to help our child who is in 3rd grade. She has struggled with reading and spelling since first grade and things have continued to increase in their difficulty. We have had many homework "wars" where we were in tears because of our frustration. We have asked other people to join us in our prayers for guidance. Our prayers were answered on Friday, September 25th during morning drop off when a staff member asked me about our child. I answered and she told me she could help. I met with her later in the day and came up with a plan to help our daughter learn. We truly believe she is our Angel and can't thank her enough for helping our family. After only two months of focusing on a new way of learning things are going better. We see how God has answered our prayer and are forever grateful.

Parent Corner! "The Most Beautiful Gift"
Adapted from the Love and Logic institute’s article
“The Most Beautiful Gift” by Dr. Charles Fay

We’ve all done it- worn ourselves out trying to make things so perfect that we forget the most perfect gift of all- the expression of never-ending, unconditional love. We all need it. We all yearn for a relationship with someone who will love us forever, regardless of how stinky we behave. Isn’t this the greatest gift we can give our loved ones? Isn’t this what the holiday season is really about?

This year, my hope is that you’ll
  • Spend time playing with your kids than you spend shopping for them,
  • Remember that the gift they really yearn for is you,
  • Hug them and smile into their eyes as often as possible, and
  • Show them through your never-ending love what a precious gift they are.
