Earlier in the school year, I was called to the lower level to help clean up a child who had an accident. As I cleaned him up, we were talking about the “Wash Your Hands” posters on the walls of the bathroom. One in particular depicted cartoon like germs that looked scared at the sight of soap. The student I was helping was looking at that picture when we had the following conversation:
Him: Those are germs and we need to kill them when we wash our hands.
Me: Oh definitely! We don’t want germs to make us sick.
Him: Then the germs die with soap and go to heaven with God and Jesus. And then we will see them again when we die and go to heaven.
Me: …. (Long pause)… Um…. Hmmmm… Well, I guess that’s something to think about. We’ll just have to ask Jesus about that one when we get to heaven.
Him: Yep.
I don’t know if germs, dead or alive, will be in heaven one day, but I do know that this little guy has definitely heard the Good News about God’s love and plan of salvation for him. And, I love the idea that God can work His plan amidst COVID in the oddest of circumstances, bathroom posters.
