BLUE RIBBON CIRCLE

Last Wednesday evening we had a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and thank those who generously support our mission here at Ramona by their financial donations.  Our Blue Ribbon Circle members (those who contribute $1,000 or more each year) make it possible for Ramona students to enjoy many educational advantages.  Tuition does not cover the full cost of educating a student here at Ramona -- hence fundraisers and the annual giving (parent pledge) program.  While 100% of our parents participate in the parent pledge program there are some who are willing and able to do more.  They, together with alumnae, alumni parents, and friends from the surrounding community, give us that extra measure of support that makes a difference.  In addition to enjoying wine and hors d'oeuvres, our guest were entertained by the Quintessential Quirky Quartet of Michelle Barbosa, Joan Chou,  Megan Carroll, and Sarah Gomez on the handbells.  Vanessa Martinez spoke eloquently of her four years at Ramona, what they have meant to her, how she has been challenged to grow and develop her talents, and her plans for the future.  All in all, our guests left with a feeling that their money is well invested.  While we missed those parents who had other commitments and those of our alums who live at a distance, the evening was a perfect reminder that the tradition of support for Ramona and the mission of the Sisters of the Holy name begun in 1889 is still strong.

 VARSITY SOCCER SENIOR NIGHT

Senior Soccer Players

Last night, we celebrated Senior night for our Varsity soccer team.  In the afternoon, our team defeated Marlborough by a decisive 7-0 margin, and we followed with our traditional dinner/ceremony in honor of our graduating Seniors.  We all enjoyed a tasty pot-luck dinner, a wonderful slide show, and emotional speeches by coaches and players alike.  It was a most memorable evening.  Our graduating Senior soccer players are  Jessica Correll, Karina Garcia, Nancy Nunez, Arielle Peraza, and Celina Valencia.  Good luck next year in college, ladies.  We will miss you greatly!

TUITION ASSISTANCE

The tuition assistance portal on Ramona's website is open to process new and returning student applications.  The deadline for new students is this Friday, February 11, 2011.   The deadline for returning students is March 7, 2011. If you have a daughter already at Ramona and have a younger daughter who is applying, please file your tuition assistance application for both daughters at the earlier deadline.  Late applications will be processed only after all timely applications have been reviewed - and then only if there are fund available.  Please do not jeopardize your daughters chance to receive tuition assistance by failing to meeting the deadlines.  An application will be considered complete once FAST confirms that the on-line application is completed and taxes have been received AND all necessary forms have been filed here at Ramona.  If you have a question about completing your application on-line, please contact Francine Rodriguez at Ext. 112 or  [email protected].

ENROLLMENT PACKETS

Please watch the U.S. mail for re-enrollment packets, which were mailed out on Tuesday, February 1st. They are coming via bulk mail, so please allow up to two weeks for delivery. If your packet does not arrive by February 15th, please have your daughter pick one up from the tuition office. The packets contain all of the necessary information about tuition and fees, deadline dates, and tuition assistance.  Please mark your calendars and plan accordingly.  Re-enrollment packets and fees are due on or before February 28th. Tuition assistance applications (including 2010 income tax papers) are due on or before March 7th

AP EXAMS

If your daughter is taking an AP class, she received  a summary of fees during the week before finals.  February 28th is the last day to contact Ms. Pillon if you believe you qualify for a discounted fee.  The chart that tells you if you qualify is on the back of the fee summary.

GUIDANCE ANNOUNCEMENTS

Ramona students in any grade can apply for a Kohl's Kids scholarship.  The student must be nominated, although the nominator may be the parent.  Scholarships range form $1,000 to $9,000 and will be given to students who have done volunteer work or community service.  The application deadline is March 15th, and the application is available at www.kohlskids.com.

Counselors are now meeting with freshmen, sophomores, and juniors to plan class schedules for next school year.  Please go over with your daughter the information given to her by her counselor.  We want to make sure that parents are involved in the scheduling process.

Mr. Lane is hosting an evening meeting for parents of freshmen on Tuesday, February 15th.  He will explain the PSAT results and give individual results for each student to her parents.  Mrs. Bonn also will present the first steps of the college exploration process.  All parents of freshmen are encouraged to attend.  Students are welcome to attend with their parents, although the meeting is not designed for them.
