HOLIDAY LIGHTS UPDATE
For the 2020 Season
|
|
The safety of our residents and visitors is a top priority.
Due to COVID-19 public gathering restrictions, the Thoroughbred Holiday Light Display area has been designated as Drive-Thru Only beginning December 4 - 24, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. The original ordinance was established to reduce the mix of vehicles and pedestrians during peak evening and weekend hours. This Drive-Thru Only ordinance has been expanded for the 2020 season.
The holiday lights display is not City-sanctioned; however, a traffic management plan was established to reduce traffic congestion and provide access for public safety.

WHAT IS A PUBLIC SAFETY POWER SHUTOFF (PSPS) EVENT?
|
|
Southern California Edison (SCE) has made it a priority to invest in improvements to help prevent wildfires and act quickly when they occur to keep customers, employees, and the public safe.
The utility is reinforcing the electrical grid with new technologies that help reduce wildfire risks. These include installing insulated wires that lower the chance of faults or short circuits that can create sparks when they come into contact with birds, squirrels and other animals, vegetation or debris. SCE also is installing composite poles that are stronger and more resilient than wood poles. Fast-acting fuses, advanced lightning arrestors and other devices that can react more quickly to minimize fire risks also are being installed.
One of the ways Southern California Edison (SCE) is reducing wildfire risks is Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) in High Fire Threat District areas (https://ia.cpuc.ca.gov/firemap/) as designated by the California Public Utilities Commission. During these events, SCE may need to proactively shut off power temporarily as a result of elevated weather conditions that can cause a power line to fall and spark, possibly creating a wildfire. PSPS events are temporary and are meant to keep the community safe.
SCE considers several factors and conditions before declaring a PSPS. These include, but are not limited to:
- High winds (including Red Flag Warnings declared by the National Weather Service)
- Low humidity
- Dry vegetation that could serve as fuel
- On-the-ground observations
- Fire threat to electric infrastructure
- Public safety risk
In advance of PSPS events, SCE will notify local governments, the emergency management community, and first responders. They will also intend to notify affected customers approximately two days in advance of a potential power shutoff. This notification will be via email, text or phone call. They may also send another notice to customers about one day before a potential power shutoff. Customers can also be kept updated regularly on www.sce.com/psps and SCEs social media channels. SCE will also notify affected customers when power has been restored. SCE customers can sign up for PSPS alerts at www.sce.com/wildfire/psps-alerts

ETIWANDA HEIGHTS NEIGHBORHOOD & CONSERVATION AREA INCORPORATED INTO RANCHO CUCAMONGA BOUNDARIES
|
|
On Monday, November 9, 2020, San Bernardino County’s Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) approved the annexation of approximately 4,085 acres from the County of San Bernardino to be incorporated into the City of Rancho Cucamonga.
The annexation extended the City’s boundaries by 6.3 miles, making the City nearly 47 square miles. Previously released documents and informational videos related to the annexation and the Etiwanda Heights Neighborhood and Conservation Plan are available online at www.CityofRC.us/EtiwandaHeights. The City appreciates the time and effort that residents invested in this community-based planning process. As Rancho Cucamonga matures, it is important to the City Council to engage with as many community members as possible to ensure Rancho Cucamonga remains a world-class community.

California Announces Regional Stay-at-Home Order Due to Increased Hospitalizations
|
|
On Thursday, December 3rd, Governor Newsom, announced the need to “pull the emergency break” and provided details for a Regional Stay-at-Home Order. This order would go into effect once a region drops below 15% Intensive Care Unit (ICU) capacity at hospitals within the Southern California region.
This will mandate the closure of personal care services, including hair and nail salons and barbershops; indoor recreational facilities; bars and wineries; youth sports; playgrounds; on-site dining at restaurants (take-out, pick-up and delivery only); hotels and motels except for critical infrastructure support; see County’s update for full list. In addition, the new mandate limits retail stores to 20% capacity and restricts non-essential travel.
For San Bernardino County COVID-19 related information, including case statistics, FAQs, guidelines and resources, visit the County’s COVID-19 webpage.
Residents of San Bernardino County may also call the COVID-19 helpline at (909) 387-3911 for general information and resources about the virus. The phone line is NOT for medical calls and is available Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. If you have questions about social services, please call 211.
