So what does a long, illustrious career look like for a K-9? Early morning runs? Maybe.
Late night searches? Absolutely. A sudden 5-Mile trek? Oh yes!
Dare, named after a promise to those she seeks, has had many accomplishments over her eight years of service. With her nose to the ground, she has been deployed over 1,500 times. And while her handler played the mind hunter, reading Dare’s mind and queues, Dare played the man hunter. With just a single scent article, she has found over 250 suspects, missing persons, firearms and countless articles of investigative leads.
Dare has worked cases from the Mexican border up to Visalia and in every climate. She has made many friends along the way and has acquired over 2,000 followers on Instagram from as far as Australia, Turkey and England.
Although Dare was born, raised and trained in Washington. She spent a lot of time training in South Carolina as well. She has traveled extensively, mostly up and down the east coast, for training. She was invited and participated in the FBI's K-9 Academy in Quantico, Virginia and put her newly acquired skills to good use here in Rancho Cucamonga.
Deputy Girard says it has been a privilege having Dare as his partner and is filled with gratitude when she accomplishes a mission. Most recently, the pair were summonsed to Joshua Tree where deputies were trying to locate a critical missing teenager. Dare tracked and located the teen on a steep-hillside covered with large boulders and rocky terrain and the teen was rescued.
Dare, please accept our deepest appreciation for all your hard work! You and your sister, Deja, were the first K-9’s for the City of Rancho Cucamonga and have left big paws to be filled. We wish you a very happy and healthy retirement.
Sooo… What are you going to do now that you’re retired?
Dare: I'm going to Disneyland... if it's open.

HAVE YOUR PET MICROCHIPPED AT THE
RC ANIMAL CENTER
|
|
A microchip is one of the best types of identification your pet can have. A microchip is a small device, about the size of a grain of rice, that is implanted beneath your pet’s skin. Implanting a microchip takes only a few seconds and is similar to a routine vaccination injection. The microchip contains a unique number that is linked to your contact information. Pets with microchips are reunited quicker and more often than pets with only collars and identification. Also, if your pet is lost or stolen, a microchip is your permanent proof of ownership. Effective January 1, 2021, a new law requires all dogs and cats that are reclaimed by their owner or adopted by a new owner from an animal shelter or rescue be microchipped (Food and Agriculture Code 31108.3 and 31752.1).
The Rancho Cucamonga Animal Center offers microchipping services by appointment only. The cost is $25 which includes enrollment in the Homeagain’s Pet Recovery Database. To make an appointment, call 1-909-466-7387 option 0. For more information on microchipping services or updating your contact information on your pet’s microchip, visit www.RCPets.info by clicking the link below.
