NEW PUBLIC SAFETY FACILITY OPENS IN RANCHO CUCAMONGA
|
|
|
The City of Rancho Cucamonga is excited to announce the opening of the new Public Safety Facility, located at 8870 San Bernardino Road, on the west-end of the City. The new building houses the relocated Fire Station #172 previously to the east on San Bernardino Road, and offers a police substation for residents to file reports and conduct other business.
Originally built in 1948 with the Cucamonga Fire Department, the familiar San Bernardino Road Station #172 had served this community for over 70 years. Existing personnel relocated to the new facility on February 19th to a state-of-the-art building that provides modern amenities and will better serve the growing community. The Rancho Cucamonga Police Department will be staffing the police substation later this month.
On March 3rd, the City Council, along with a few City and Public Safety officials dedicated the new building with a small ribbon cutting ceremony to welcome public safety personnel to their new home.
“It is a City Council core value to promote and enhance a safe and healthy community for all,” said Mayor L. Dennis Michael. “This building is a symbol of our dedication to keeping our community as safe as possible for many generations to come.”

For almost a year now we have heard about how difficult these unprecedented times have been. Many people have suffered loss in various ways. With the daily news of family, friends, or co-workers effected by the pandemic, watching and reading updates about COVID-19, and witnessing the civil unrest in this country, 2020 was a very tough year.
Our children were forced to adjust their daily lives with distance learning, while parents tried to juggle work from home or finding care for their children while they went off to work. Holidays and special occasions were altered because we were unable to spend time with our loved ones in-person.
Despite all of this, an abundance of good happened around; people were going above and beyond to support one another. For one Rancho Cucamonga resident, his contributions were by way of spreading cheer in the community.
Captain Abearica is a head banging bear who loves hard rock, cares about our Rancho Cucamonga community and wants to see residents be kind toward one another.

Throughout 2020, you, the community shared, explored, and prioritized ideas for the future of Rancho Cucamonga. While we weren’t able to come together in person, our community adapted and found meaningful ways to get involved in PlanRC, the City’s general plan update. To date, PlanRC has received input from over 2,000 community members through online surveys and virtual meetings, and generated over 675,000 impressions through various forms of digital engagement.
Your input helped see important guiding themes and core community values emerge. As a result of all the insightful community input and dialogue, three land use and mobility scenarios were crafted, after community discussions to consider these three scenarios, a community-inspired scenario was drafted.
Later this spring the PlanRC Team will continue the general plan update and will be inviting the community to participate in the next step.
This video is a summary of the PlanRC, General Plan Update progress that was made in 2020. If you haven’t had an opportunity to participate, it isn’t too late. This video will catch you up to speed.

The City of Rancho Cucamonga is pleased to announce the unveiling of its newest health and wellness amenity at Central Park along the Pacific Electric Trail with a sleek and modern outdoor Fitness Court® by National Fitness Campaign (NFC).
This exciting new addition of an outdoor Fitness Court® allows for free access to high quality workouts for the Rancho Cucamonga community. During the COVID-19 pandemic, fitness options have been significantly reduced, including the public health-ordered closure of the City’s Wellness Pass gym, located inside the James L. Brulte Senior Center. The location of the new Fitness Court® was chosen for its proximity to Central Park, making it easily accessible for both existing Central Park visitors and those who utilize the Pacific Electric Trail.
The Fitness Court®, created by National Fitness Campaign is an open-air exercise amenity that allows users to leverage their own body weight to get a complete workout. Created with adults of all ages in mind, the Fitness Court® is adaptable for all fitness levels and offers a simple yet effective workout.
New users can also download the free Fitness Court® App that transforms the outdoor gym into a digitally supported wellness ecosystem, available for iOS and Android.
This new fitness amenity reflects the City Council’s core value of promoting and enhancing a safe and healthy community for all, while furthering the Council’s goal to continuously develop Central Park.

Vaccinations
The current eligibility for COVID-19 vaccinations include all persons over age 65, as well as those working in health care, public safety/emergency services, skilled nursing/assisted living facilities, education, licensed childcare, and food and agriculture. Based on appointments and vaccine availability, residents who fall under the Phase 1A and Phase 1B criteria can sign up at SBcovid19.com/vaccine or call 1-909-387-3911.
For questions, email coronavirus@DPH.sbcounty.gov or call the County’s hotline at 1-909-387-3911, available Monday – Friday 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Soon all vaccine appointments in San Bernardino County will be made using the state’s MyTurn system. County residents should register immediately at sbccovid19.com/vaccine in order to receive alerts about eligibility and appointment opportunities.
A vaccination site was recently opened at IEHP in Rancho Cucamonga for those who are currently eligible. Eligible persons should also remember that County-run vaccination sites are not the only places to receive a vaccine, so they should check with pharmacies, state-run sites and their own doctor about vaccines.
San Bernardino County is working hard to continue replenishing the vaccine supply through the State to meet the high demand of residents who fit this criteria. We encourage you to sign up to receive email or text notifications on COVID-19 vaccine availability by CLICKING HERE. This includes if you have a family member, friend, or neighbor who is 65+ and may need help with the process. For updates on the current tier system for vaccination eligibility, click HERE.
Testing
Free COVID-19 testing continues to be available at the RC Sports Center (8303 Rochester Ave.) provided by San Bernardino County Department of Public Health. The facility recently expanded to have Saturday testing in mid-February. To book an appointment, click HERE.
