CITY COUNCIL REDISTRICTING UPDATE
|

Update on City Council Redistricting
On March 2, 2022, the City of Rancho Cucamonga City Council made its tentative selection of a new City Council District Map. The four council district borders reflect how local populations have changed over the past ten years. Minor adjustments were made to the existing district boundaries to reflect and balance population growth within the districts, per the legal requirements. Overall changes were modest.
One of the primary goals when developing election districts is to draw lines that respect communities of interest, including but not limited to neighborhoods, historical areas, major geographic boundaries, and similar types of considerations.
The proposed new City Council District Map will be presented for adoption at a public hearing on Wednesday, March 16th at 8:00 p.m. Once adopted, this will be the City Council district map for the next 10 years, until the next Census. There is no change to election sequencing.
State law requires cities and counties to engage communities in the redistricting process by holding public hearings and conducting public outreach, including to underrepresented and non-English-speaking communities.
Thank you to all who participated in this process. Learn more at www.drawrc.org

As Spring approaches and breeding season for many species of wildlife begins, sightings of coyotes in our community will become more common. Knowing a little bit more about our wild neighbors can help everyone safely co-exist.
|
|
- Coyotes are found throughout California. They are extremely adaptable and can survive in many habitats, including residential areas like Rancho Cucamonga.
- Coyotes look similar to small German Shepherds in size and shape. They have a long, slender muzzle with large, erect ears. Their tail is round and bushy.
- Coyotes are normally seen at night or early evening but can be found during the day searching for food and water during breeding season or when resources are scarce.
- Coyotes are vital to ecological balance because they help to keep populations of smaller animals, like mice, rats, and rabbits in check.
|
|
Make sure you are not attracting coyotes to your property:
- Never feed or attempt to “tame” a coyote.
- Don’t leave small children or pets outside unattended.
- Remove sources of water, especially in dry seasons.
- Trim ground-level shrubbery to reduce hiding places.
- Put trash in tightly closed containers that cannot tip over.
- Do not leave pet food outside and bring pets in at night.
- Provide secure enclosures for rabbits, poultry, or other small animals.
- Pick up fallen fruit and cover compost piles.
|
|
|
|
What should you do if you encounter a coyote?
- Keep children and pets close to you. Always keep your dog leashed.
- Do not approach the animal.
- Do not run from the animal. Stand tall, make eye contact and pick up children or small dogs without turning your back.
- Help keep coyotes wary of humans. Use hazing techniques such as making loud noises and yelling, stomping feet, waving your arms, and throwing rocks or other objects towards the animal to let it know it’s not welcome.
|
|
The Rancho Cucamonga Animal Center will assist residents with tips on humanely co-existing with coyotes. We will also respond to coyotes that are sick, injured, or are determined to be a public safety risk. The Rancho Cucamonga Animal Center is prohibited from trapping and relocating healthy coyotes. Contact Field Services at 1-909-466-7387 ext. 1 for more information or assistance.
