CITY COUNCIL REDISTRICTING |

Every 10 years, local governments use new data from the Census to evaluate City Council district lines to reflect how local populations may have changed. State law requires cities and counties to engage communities in the redistricting process by holding public hearings and doing public outreach, including to underrepresented and non-English-speaking communities. The City of Rancho Cucamonga invites you to get involved in these efforts. Learn more at www.DrawRC.org
The second City Council Redistricting Public Hearing will be held on Wednesday, November 3rd at 8:00 p.m. at City Hall, Council Chambers.
How to participate?
Share your specific thoughts, draw a map, or attend an upcoming public hearing to get involved!
At the hearings, we want you to:
- Share your story
- Define your neighborhood or community of interest
- Explain why redistricting is relevant to your community
- Get the tools you need to draw a map of one council district or of all five council districts
- Share your opinions of the draft maps
- Talk to your neighbors and local organizations

ARMED FORCES BANNER PROGRAM |

We are pleased to announce that Rancho Cucamonga's Armed Forces Banners are getting a new design to proudly recognize and display our appreciation for the service and sacrifice of our service members.
Over the next month current banners will be removed and new banners will be installed with an anticipated completion date of November 11th. We are excited to give our banners a new look and can't wait to unveil them in honor of our hometown heroes.

SPOOKTACULAR TRUNK OR TREAT |

Interested in hosting a trunk? We’re gearing up for Spooktacular on Saturday, October 23rd and have Trunk or Treat stations available!
Spooktacular is our Halloween themed community event that has activities for children and adults alike, such as: Halloween themed music, fun-filled games, and of course a Trunk-or-Treat area for the children to get their candy fix.

The 2021 World Music Concert Series is generously underwritten by U.S. Bank through a grant received by the Rancho Cucamonga Community & Arts Foundation. The Victoria Gardens Cultural Center is excited to bring back its fan-favorite World Music Series on Thursday nights in October! Admission is free.
- October 14th - ADAAWE: West African roots, Gospel harmonies and American funk.
- October 21st - Polynesian Paradise Dancers: Traditional dances and music of the Polynesian Islands.
- October 28th - Las Colibrí: Vocal harmonies and unique interpretations of traditional sones, huapangos, and rancheras.

California has already seen its fair share of wildfires this year, which is a reminder to be #ReadyRC if Rancho Cucamonga experiences one close to home especially with the Santa Ana winds season nearing.
While firefighters train and prepare for wildfires through fire hazard abatement and community awareness programs, residents are encouraged to prepare their homes as well. Here are a few tips to keep you, your loved ones, and your home safe:
- If you live closer to the foothills, create a defensible space around your home that includes low growing plants with high moisture content.
- Remove dead branches or trees and clear weeds and dry vegetation from around your property.
- Roofs and eaves are vulnerable to flying embers in a wildfire, so be sure to clean your rain gutters and inspect your attic roof vents for proper installation and integrity.
- Create and practice an evacuation plan with your household, especially if something happens while people are away from home.

Today, Rancho Cucamonga firefighters stand ready to respond to wildfires following joint training exercises with state, federal and neighboring agencies. These collaborative trainings help strengthen relationships and refine strategies and tactics for an effective response. And it is with the community’s help that we remain a resilient city to the threat of wildfires in our region. We encourage you to take this opportunity to not only consider the tips above, but to put a plan together that the entire Ready RC community will benefit from. History has shown that it’s not a matter of if a wildfire will threaten our community, but when it will happen again. Join us in our effort to be the safest community who is always #ReadyRC.

FIRE EXPLORER APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN |

The Fire Explorer program offers youth the opportunity to participate in both classroom and hands-on firefighting training, to prepare for a future career in the fire service.
How to apply:

Complete the online application at RCFire.Org.

Submit a one-page essay titled “Why I want to be a Fire Explorer with the Rancho Cucamonga Fire District.” The essay shall be typed and double spaced, when completed send to [email protected]
- High School students must also include a copy of their most recent report card.
- All accepted Explorers must be fully COVID vaccinated by January 1, 2022.

CAT-OBERFEST

Join us for Cat-Oberfest!
On Sunday, October 24th the Rancho Cucamonga Animal Center and Rancho Cucamonga Animal Care Foundation will be hosting their 4th annual Cat-Oberfest adoption and boutique event at the Animal Center (11780 Arrow Route) from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Come adopt a new feline family member (adoption fees waived) or shop at the cat boutique and find new cat treasures! Not ready to adopt? Visit the Adopt-A-Plant booth. Proceeds from the event benefit the Animal Center’s foster and cat programs.
Interested in donating to the event? The Animal Center is in need of new cute cat items for pets and people (think coffee mugs, cat ears, cat jewelry)! The Center is also in need of gifts cards that can be used in raffle baskets. Donations can be dropped off at the Animal Center Wednesday through Saturday from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. by October 20th. The City of Rancho Cucamonga will be accepting donated items for our Thanksgiving Food Drive beginning on November 8th at the RC Family Resource Center.

Testing and Vaccination Opportunities
Free COVID-19 testing and vaccinations continue to be available at the RC Sports Center (8303 Rochester Ave.) provided by San Bernardino County Department of Public Health. COVID-19 testing is available Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Vaccinations and boosters are available Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., appointments are preferred but walk-ins are accepted based on availability.
