20 YEARS OF CARING FOR

ANIMALS & COMMUNITY

aerial view of the City of RC Animal Center building, and City of Rancho Cucamonga Animal Center Creating Pawsitive Impact 20 year anniversary logo.

This month, the Rancho Cucamonga Animal Center (11780 Arrow Rte.) is celebrating 20 years of caring for animals and the community. Since opening its doors, the Center has helped more than 62,000 animals find loving homes, reunite with their families, or receive the care they needed, creating a lasting impact across the city.

This milestone would not be possible without the dedicated staff, volunteers, foundation members, and community partners who support the Animal Center’s mission every day. Together, they help deliver programs that make a difference, from foster care and adoptions to spay and neuter services, veterinary care, and the Community Cat program, which has served more than 6,000 free-roaming cats.

Over the years, the Animal Center has continued to grow its impact through the Rancho Cucamonga Animal Care Foundation, youth programs like Pet Cadet, veterinary internships, and partnerships with local organizations that help more pets find safe, loving homes.

As the Animal Center celebrates this 20-year milestone, staff remain proud of the impact made over the years and look forward to continuing to provide compassionate care and innovative programs that support animals and the community who love them.

YOUR MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS

An illustration of two young women sitting on a blanket at a park talking to each other with the text that states make your mental health a priority. There is a Rancho Cucamonga logo, Healthy RC logo and your mind matters logo.

Let’s come together to break the stigma, raise awareness, and encourage open conversations about mental health. Taking care of your mind is just as important as your physical health.

Below are a few simple ways to support your mental wellness:

  • Take time for yourself: journal, meditation, or taking a few deep breaths to reset.
  • Stay connected: talk with friends and family.
  • Get active: even a short walk can boost your mood.
  • Be kind to yourself: give yourself grace on hard days.
  • Seek help if needed: you are not alone.

Let’s support one another and build a community where mental health matters. To view mental health resources, visit CityofRC.us/mental-health or click the button below.

WILDFIRE AWARENESS STARTS AT HOME

Illustration of a firefighter male dressed in firefighter gear, holding a helmet with the text above him that saysWildfire Awareness Month May 2025. Behind the firefighter is the back of a fire truck and next to the firefighter is a Rancho Cucamonga Fire District Fire truck. There is dark smoke in the sky.

May is Wildfire Awareness Month! History has shown that it’s not a matter of if a wildfire will threaten our community, but when it will happen again. Now is the time to make your home and family resilient during a wildfire:

  • If you live closer to our foothills, create a defensible space around your home that includes low growing plants with high moisture content.
  • Remove dead branches or trees, clear weeds and dry vegetation from around your property.
  • Roofs and eaves are vulnerable to flying embers in a wildfire, so be sure to clean your rain gutters and inspect your attic roof vents for proper installation and integrity.
  • Create and practice an evacuation plan with your household, especially if something happens while people are away from the home.

In addition to preparing our community for wildfires, the Rancho Cucamonga Fire District holds annual wildfire training exercises with state, federal and neighboring agencies. These collaborative trainings help strengthen relationships and refine strategies and tactics for an effective response.

When firefighters and the community work together to be prepared for wildfire season, we can mitigate the risk of a wildfire before it happens!
